Default Zip ties in helmets - why?

Over the last few weeks I've noticed quite a few people (on road and MTBs, Sydney and Canberra) riding around with multiple (6-12) zip ties radiating out of their helmets. Kinda looks like a not-very-spiky echidna.

I zip tie my Ayups to my helmet, but can't figure out this one.

    Why?

So you don't have to take your helmet off next time you go to a Blink 182 concert.

I might have to try that. I got attacked by one of the bastards the other day, and if I hadn't been wearing headphones it would have taken off with a chunk of my ear.
Some people are like Slinkies. They serve no useful purpose, but they're fun to push down the stairs.
