    Hi mate.
There are no specific bike parks in Sydney, although there are plenty of places to ride. Look in the NSW section of the Watering Hole forum on here. Try to get in on some of the organised rides going on each week. People are usually more than willing to show you around.

The tracks in Sydney are generally not legal and as such most people are reluctant to post on the internet. When you get here you need to meet up with some people to show you around and perhaps share a shuttle or 2
Pretty brave move travelling half way around the world to try DH. Hope you have medical insurance and a good attitude towards personal injury.
Don't forget to also bring your sence of humour.

Thredbo is the closes we have and thats 5hrs drive away and only 1 track. There is also Buller which is in Victoria ... but about 6-7 hrs away (guessing).

If you will be living and working in Sydney, then as the others have said, best to make friends in Watering Hole as there are a few crews around that will be happy to take you riding.

Happy for you to contact me when you land.

BTW Dunc its "Ciao" ... Chao is a little Asian lady in Cabramatta

I'm getting scared about snakes, do they represent a serious danger for bikers??
And for the injury insurance have you got some suggestions? Is it better to do insurance in Italy or in OZ?? Price?

Bike riders are more of a problem to themselves than anything else you will find here (apart from the sun and heat).

Snakes are generally timid and shy away from the vibrations of you riding.
Don't go poking them and they wont hurt you.
Chances are you won't even see one.

Like the guys above have said, intro yourself to a few of the crews in the NSW watering hole.

Wollongong is about an hour south of Sydney and also has a pretty good range of XC and DH.

I've been riding for 2+ years (almost every weekend) and I've never seen a snake on a trail.

Hit up http://nobmob.com for most of the areas used in Sydney and surrounding areas.
Also have look at Trailflix.com.au for maps and video files of all the "legal" trails.

PM me when/if you come up to Ourimbah, happy to show you around.

How come we don't get that invitation

    Re insurance ...
You're prolly better to get it at home ... something like travel insurance. How long will you be here for ?? couple months or Migrating ??

If your doing a year or longer and doing a working holiday of sorts, then we have plenty of health care providers ... HCF is govt owned and a little more customer friendly ... I work for Bupa/MBF (which also owns HBA and a small South Australian company Manchester something). they are all about the same

If you have insurance already, maybe they have overseas coverage ... so you can just maintain your payments (or get your parents to cover it ).

    Re: Snakes ...
The biggest Snakes you'll come across are the ones that you ride with ... especially the buggers that try to skip their turn as shuttle pig ... wah wah wah.
