Hey guys,
If you haven't see our thread in the 'watering hole' (Click here to see it)
We will be running a trip up to Mt Beauty and Falls Creek next weekend the 19th 20th JAN to shuttle both the Big Hill Mountain Bike Park at Mt Beauty for DH and XC riders and will also be running a shuttle up to Falls Creek, Mt McKay and the Rocky Valley Dam for any keen All Mountain riders that want to tackle some of the best AM riding in VIC.
There are 2 main trail routes we recommend you take from Falls Creek to Mt Beauty, each of which will take between 4-7 hours to complete and will see you climb to an elevation of 1885m (6184ft) finishing with an epic descent down to 365m (1,216ft) Total elevation drop of 1520m! These rides will suit intermediate to advanced riders only. There is a guided ride option with one of our riders or you can just use the shuttle to do it solo provided you have reliable gear, phone, first aid, supplies etc. Our shuttle will meet riders at a pre organised meeting point in Mt Beauty to transfer to the start of the trails and then meet them at the finish. For more info and specific details on these rides and trails email me: ride@bluedirt.com.au
For any riders interested in doing either of these rides, we are happy to describe the trail routes and trails in detail as well as recommend maps to get so you can start planning your ride before the weekend.
What you can expect:
Route 1: Big River Ride
Approximately 50km of worn, technical 4WD trail and fire track. These trails are worn, rutted, loose, and more in places making them great riding and keep you on your toes the whole way. There are a couple of steep climbs and a few pinches. Once you get on the downhill, it is hell for leather. There is so much downhill your arms will be burning. There will be river crossings, fern tree forests, breathe taking views and much more along the way.
Allow 3-6 hours to complete.
Route 2: Fainters Ride
Approximately 50km of worn, technical 4WD trail, fire track and SINGLE TRACK. Large sections of these fire trails are so worn that it is almost single track with only 1 line. This route contains a great mix of both single track and rocky 4WD trails covered in debris and more. There are sections you will be hiking your bike over trees and up unridable rutted sections.
This trail is more advanced, more remote and more difficult that the Big River Ride and should only be ridden by physically fit riders with an advanced riding skill level. You will climb 6 or so peaks providing some of/if not the best views in Victoria. The descents in the last half of the ride are epic! The final climb will see you at the very top of the Big Hill Mountain Bike Park where you can choose which single trails you want to finish off your ride, whether it be the Big Hill Downhill track right from the top or one of the cross country trails to the bottom.
Allow 4-7 hours to complete.
