Default Incredible All Mountain rides Falls Creek to Mt Beauty with shuttle 19th 20th JAN

    Hey guys,

If you haven't see our thread in the 'watering hole' (Click here to see it)

We will be running a trip up to Mt Beauty and Falls Creek next weekend the 19th 20th JAN to shuttle both the Big Hill Mountain Bike Park at Mt Beauty for DH and XC riders and will also be running a shuttle up to Falls Creek, Mt McKay and the Rocky Valley Dam for any keen All Mountain riders that want to tackle some of the best AM riding in VIC.

There are 2 main trail routes we recommend you take from Falls Creek to Mt Beauty, each of which will take between 4-7 hours to complete and will see you climb to an elevation of 1885m (6184ft) finishing with an epic descent down to 365m (1,216ft) Total elevation drop of 1520m! These rides will suit intermediate to advanced riders only. There is a guided ride option with one of our riders or you can just use the shuttle to do it solo provided you have reliable gear, phone, first aid, supplies etc. Our shuttle will meet riders at a pre organised meeting point in Mt Beauty to transfer to the start of the trails and then meet them at the finish. For more info and specific details on these rides and trails email me: ride@bluedirt.com.au

For any riders interested in doing either of these rides, we are happy to describe the trail routes and trails in detail as well as recommend maps to get so you can start planning your ride before the weekend.

    What you can expect:

    Route 1: Big River Ride
Approximately 50km of worn, technical 4WD trail and fire track. These trails are worn, rutted, loose, and more in places making them great riding and keep you on your toes the whole way. There are a couple of steep climbs and a few pinches. Once you get on the downhill, it is hell for leather. There is so much downhill your arms will be burning. There will be river crossings, fern tree forests, breathe taking views and much more along the way.
    Allow 3-6 hours to complete.

    Route 2: Fainters Ride
Approximately 50km of worn, technical 4WD trail, fire track and SINGLE TRACK. Large sections of these fire trails are so worn that it is almost single track with only 1 line. This route contains a great mix of both single track and rocky 4WD trails covered in debris and more. There are sections you will be hiking your bike over trees and up unridable rutted sections.

This trail is more advanced, more remote and more difficult that the Big River Ride and should only be ridden by physically fit riders with an advanced riding skill level. You will climb 6 or so peaks providing some of/if not the best views in Victoria. The descents in the last half of the ride are epic! The final climb will see you at the very top of the Big Hill Mountain Bike Park where you can choose which single trails you want to finish off your ride, whether it be the Big Hill Downhill track right from the top or one of the cross country trails to the bottom.

    Allow 4-7 hours to complete.

If All Mountain isn't you thing then come and do runs in Mt Beauty all weekend!!

There are still spots available to get in quick to book a spot:
    1 day shuttles: $60
    2 day shuttles: $100
    2 day shuttles +1 nights Accom: $250

Used to ride from Mt Mackay to Beauty years late 90's, it was tops, I highly recommend it.

Thats awesome to hear you used to roam these trails back in the 90's! It definitely has to be some of the best 50km All Mountain riding in Victoria!

I was on this ride as well and I must vouch for the journey. It wasn't easy by any stretch of the imagination but we rode through some extraordinary country that is completely inaccessible to other vehicles. We descended 1500m vertical over the entirety of the ride, with a few climbs thrown in along the way. Not to mention a rock garden somewhere along the way that would have been at least 500m long that had a sheer drop off to the side and had me wishing I was on a DH bike. Mental. Some of the fire road descents heading down into Big Hill MTB park right towards the end had us up in the 70kph region on trail bikes.

The guys running Blue Dirt have a very strong adventure touring background and they handled everything from the initial booking to the ride itself to a dip in a mountain rock pool after the ride like pros.

It was a truly unforgettable ride that I would recommend to anybody of decent fitness and skill level. Get on it kids.

Thanks to Blue Dirt for a great experience.

    Cheers guys,

It was awesome having you both on board for the trip. Amazing riders, amazing bikes and an amazing day riding.

Spaces for the 'Fainters' rides will be limited to small numbers and riders must be of advanced to expert skill level with a good fitness level.

There will also be our 'Big River' All Mountain ride option available. For more info go to www.bluedirt.com.au.

If you like the sound of this ride and are keen to jump on board with some of your mates you can save your spot by emailing ride@bluedirt.com.au or calling/texting: 0409 161 903.

Here is a quick shot from the top of Mt McKay on Sunday (It was a bit smokey but still a great view!) The 'Fainters' ride traverses the mountain ridge line in the background.
