    Default MMM Pays out riding

Not sure if any of you listen to MMM but last night "Spoon man" was having a go at cyclists doing stupid stuff on the road. This came about after a man in Melbourne hit and killed a pedestrian.
It is rediculous to think that people want to introduce rego for bikes!!
I know alot of riders do stupid stuff on the road but we can't let the wider community think we're a bunch of hooligans!
What do you think about the issue of riding the streets?

This issue is being thrashed out in the off-topic discussion "Hell ride kills elderly man". Check it out. You'll also find out what happened to that poor bastard in Melbourne.

I'll gladly pay an appropriate rego fee, say $15-20 per year, as long as they give me a plate to mount on the rear of my bike, so that every time some f@#kwit driver has a go at me when commuting, I can tap my little plate, give him the finger and let him/her know I'm a legitimate road user as I pay my rego tax to ride on the roads. Worth every cent in my opinion. It would also make a directly taxed group that would therefore expect more funding towards infrastructure etc aimed at cyclists.

I think rego for bikes that are ridden on the road by anyone over 18 is a great idea.
It would make people responsible for their actions when they ride and also make drivers respect our rights as well because we have paid just like them to use it. It would also make people keep their bikes up to scratch safety wise. I am amazed at the idiots I see commuting home at night without lights etc. I think rego should be much cheaper for us as we use less of the road and cause less pollution too.

It might also enable cyclists to get better insurance for our bikes and also give us a few tax breaks if we use the bike to cycle to work.

    Default Yeah

Interesting ideas, I can see the benefit.

I'll be watching this thread to see how it develops.

Not sure what my opinion is yet though

Rego does not pay for roads taxes do, but there is nothing to say that they could not use our rego to improve things for cyclists like driver and cyclist awareness courses.
I like the idea, as there are idiots on bikes that I would like to dob in. There idiots that drive, that I would like to wipe their smug face in it, as they abuse me for legally riding on the road. $20 a year sounds good to me.
Mind you I think it should be also compulsory that all that get licenses should have a stint on the bike to give them awareness of what it is like riding on the road.

I already pay for two vehicles to be registered in NSW. If I'm riding my bike, I'm not driving one of them. Registering pushbikes.....bullshit!

The fact is, dickhead truck drivers are a problem to cars.
Dickhead car drivers are a problem to bike riders.
Dickhead bike riders are a problem to pedestrians.

Solution: Get rid of the dickheads!
We're not here to f%#k spiders....

If i pay a rego for riding my bike on the road, i EXPECT THE ROAD TO BE BIKE FRIENDLY. Ifnot, you can fuck your rego.
    Gone to a better place.

I'm a big fan of the 20 dollar bike rego. Provided, of course, that we get to use the Sydney Harbour Bridge (not a narrow cycleway), the harbour tunnel, and debris-free lanes on major motorways. I'm not averse to sharing these lanes with motorists too, provided the speed limit is something safe for cyclists. I think 40-50km/h would be suitable. On steep uphills, such as on the F3, 20-30km/h would be much better.

I'm not too sure that this is going to happen anytime soon.
