    Acommodation At Glenorchy?

    Hey all,

For those of you who have been before, what sort of accomodation is there on offer? I know it's near the city, so there is the possibility of hostels, hotels, and motels, which is fine.

My real question is camping, is there any camping areas in the park nearby (like at the bottom of buller)?

In short while there is large park/recreation/bbq area next to the bike park there is no camping allowed there.

As the park is only 10-15 minutes drive (30 minutes ride) from the Hobart CBD there should be plenty of options for everyone, but take note that the race is on towards a peak tourism period so book early.

If you really run into problems or are trying to keep things cheap there may be a few locals willing to help you out too if you can offer something similar in return etc. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.

The 'city' of Glenorchy is kinda sucky, you're better off staying in Hobart.

There are a couple of caravan parks in the area which provide camping facilities.

Yeah I wouldn't stay in Glenorchy, i'd stay in one of the hostels in north hobart, if you have a car its very close and even on the bike it would only be 20min or so.

Watch out for the Glenorchy Mafia. The last time I stayed in Glenorchy they were targetting tourists, jumping up and down on their cars and generally trying to scare people away. Didn't get to meet them myself but they did make it into the local newspaper.

right near the entrance for the bike park there is a big field where everyone parks. there is a fourby track going up into the bush behind it. easy for camping if you really want to rough it...if you were sly you could easily get away with it.

With no facilities though, and it's a pretty heavy slope too. I wouldn't do it if you enjoy sleeping, haha.
