Down Right Kenya – riding 10,000km from the UK to Kenya to raise money for Kenyan schools

Friends, Farkiners, lend me your ears for a good cause! Sarah - the sister of one of our own Farkin members - is taking part in the charity ride Down Right Kenya. DRK is a bike rally from UK to distant Kenya – 10,000+km across mountains, deserts and forests, on all kinds of roads, to raise money for Kenyan schools.

Right now she and her crew of disreputable-looking-but-with-hearts-of-gold sidekicks are starting their final few weeks riding through Sudan, having already ridden all the way across Europe and the Middle East (close enough to the conflict in Gaza to see rocket fire light up the night sky). She’s pushed on through rain, snow, sandstorms and encounters with the feared Belgian police after finding out the hard way that you’re not allowed to ride on freeways in most of Europe, and is now wending her way through the unpaved back roads of East Africa towards Kenya after a full-on police escort through Egypt. She’s been on the road constantly for 5 months now, camping along the way in some strange and remote places, and will soon be coming to the final leg of her ride through Kenya.

So far she’s raised exactly half of her target 3,000 pounds for charity, and the teams have together raised 4000 pounds of their target 6000, enough to build a primary school for 700 rural children who would otherwise have no opportunity for an education. Don’t you think that her good bike-related cause deserves to reach its target? Then you can donate via credit card here, or in cash at any St George branch (details in link). Give generously if you can, and thanks for reading!
