QLD State Champs Wrap up

2009 saw the Rockhampton Dirtclowns take up the challenge of hosting the Queensland Mountain Bike State DH and XC Championships. It was indeed a big ask for a small club, but from all reports the Dirtclowns put together an awesome event.

The cross country course proved very popular with riders battling it out for podium places. Aiden Leffman made a complete sweep winning not only the Sunshine Series but can also add the QLD Champion to his stable of wins this year. It was worth the long drive to come & compete for Erin Stoklasa who took the win in the Elite Womens category.

There were no shortage of runs in the DH, with a 10min shuttle turn around, and some riders were clocking up to 13 runs on Sunday morning. But unfortunately racing got canceled just before the u19 and Elite finals due to a couple of very major crashes lead to a lack of sunlight. Results for the Juniors and Elites were then decided on qualifying times. Jolene Knight took out the Elite Womens class in 3:14.355 and Brandon Yrttiaho took out the U19 class with a time of 2:21.791, with Clint Merrin (2:21.945) in 2nd and Ben Power (2:23.842) in 3rd. Adrian Dawson (2:15.064) was crowned Elite Men State DH Champion for 2009, with Rhys Jones (2:17.467) not too far behind in 2nd and Jeremy Peterson (2:20.384) in 3rd.
