That looks amazing mate. Any story behind the art chosen?
Under your elbow, what does it say?

I was a bee's dick away from getting some work done in thailand but bailed due to many stories i've heard about there cleanliness.

Anyone out there had work done over seas? Specifically thailand?

represents my nan going up to heaven. she was pretty terminally ill my whole life and died a couple of years ago.

Ive got "to all my friends I'll die for you" under the chain.

Im a pretty strong believer in tattoos having meaning rather than just being slag tags or tuff stickers

That looks really good mate!

I also believe that tattoos need to have meaning. I'm keen to get some ink but don't want to get something that has no meaning.

Why so they can put you on Miami ink to tell your lame ass story justifying your unoriginal badly self designed tattoo?

Not trying to single you guys out... but I competely fail to see why every tattoo needs to have some DnM life changing story behind it to be justifiable. As far as I'm concerned, "I like the asthetic/it's funny/I like the artwork/etc" is just as vaild a reason as any other to get inked. It seems that for a certain percentage of people, you have to justify your "stupid decision" with some big long winded carry on about some life changing event. Some of my work has meaning, some I just like, and that's enough for me - it's on my body, if it's enough for me then why do I need to justify it to anyone else?

Back on topic - Nice work Jordy, colours are bit lurid for my personal tastes, but it's well done. Enjoy, and I look forward to seeing progress.

As for Thailand, I've spent a good 6 months there. If you mean street shops/modern tattoo - it's massively hit and miss, both with quality and sterility. As for hand tapped stuff, I saw/got a bit done when I was over there last time. The sterility is lacking. If you want tips on how to best do it safely PM me, I have a few contacts about 2hrs out of BKK at a monastry that does hand poked work.

I was sposed to have a session in late Sept but it's been pushed back to early next year - damn popular artists...

Its not about having a totto that has a DnM for miami ink and all that crap, its because if your are going to have something thats going to be on you for your whole life, i think that it should atleast have a meaning, usually people that get a spur of the moment tattoo usually regret it a few days after. Im going to put a whole lot of planning into my first and maybe all(if any) after.

...going to be on you for your whole life.... spur of the moment...regret it a few days after.
Same old cliches, same old preconceptions.

How many people who have a decent whack of ink do you know?

I know very few who haven't got a "spur of the moment" piece of work, and I know many who's favourite piece is one of those.

If I may speak for Arete, he was saying that while tattoos can have meaning, they don't have to and shouldn't be considered any less of a tattoo for not.

Tattoos are ultimately about (personal) aesthetics, all the meaning the world won't make a crap tattoo look good.

I'm in agreeance with both sides here. I believe that care should be taken when choosing a tat but that doesn't necassarilly mean it should signify a certain moment in ones life. Things like family motto's and family crests are a bit of an iffy one for me. A mate of mine has one and I don't really think it's that smart. The origin of the motto would be questionable, truth be told the nurtitional infromation on the back of a weet-bix box would hold more factual integrity. But I guess at the end of the day they are there to look good and it's only a bit of ink afterall.

That's right! Getting a bit light hearted here but try making a muiral to signify the birth of your first child etc etc. that would just be plain gross.

I agree with you arete. but if a person simply likes the design and has it tattooed on them it still does have meaning.

I was more refering to sluts with playboy bunny's, random tribal or their star sign just for the sake of having a tattoo. Same with butch guys who get tribal work done. gross.

No worries Jordy - I'm sure you get sick of getting asked "What's it mean?" too.

Some of mine are simply "Cause I liked it" to which the "What's it mean?" people shake their heads, so I guess the suggestion that a tattoo needs to mean something - as perpetuated by Miami Ink etc touches a nerve.

If you don't mind, who was/is the artist working on your arm?

dont mind at all, Its Brad Bako. not sure if you've heard of him. He specialises in biomech, the angel is the only stenciled piece and the rest is freehand, He is able to make the biomech flow with contours in the arm really well. pretty stoked with how it is coming. Pretty hard to make biomech work in with an angel due to it normally being such a dark evil style.

Does alot of other good work aswell, check his myspace www.myspace.com/bradbako

Well ive been wanting to get a tattoo for ages but because a fall off so much i was wondering what type of damage would happen to a tatto? my mate tells me that they will just fade but i have a habit of losing shit loads of skin at a time. Any suggestions?
