Any suggestions for a good AM saddle? Just something that is comfortable on long rides & so I don't feel like I have been on the wrong end of a gloved up customs agent on the way back from Thailand :noidea:

I've had a WTB Silverado for 2 years now. Still looks new even after crashing heaps, riding dirt jumps and DH. It is light and very comfortable. I recommend it.

Opinions on saddle comfort and preferred model are like arse holes - every one has one.
What's good for one bum is not always good for another. If you choose one type on the advice of someone else you pay your money and take your chances.
I suggest jumping on a few different bikes on your next social ride and see what feels best. Don't just cough up the cash and hope it suits

What have you found comfy before? Do you like flat, curved, wide, narrow, cushioned, minimal padding.

Having an idea of this will help narrow down your choices. My arse likes a wider tail, narrow nose, flat profile with minimal padding. In fact I find minimal padded saddles comfier the longer the ride, I am in love with my Fizik Kurve Snake and have been on rides 8+ hours with no issue with it. Knowing this I can make decisions based on another brands shape and profile and be in the ball park of being comfy.

Shape is only one part of it as well, make sure it is positioned correctly with the right tilt. Its amazing how much a difference a couple of degree's of tilt can make to comfort.

Work out what you need and the rest should be easy (well easier than starting from a blank slate with hundreds of options and may as well throw a dart at a saddle catalogue to pick your new perch)

I went with a specialized phenom after testing a multitude of saddles.
By far the most comfortable saddle (for me) I've used.

Highly recommend the specialized range of saddle, ergonomically/anatomically designed, and any good spec dealer do a fit/test system that allows you to trial the range before you make a decision.

Completely agree with this /\ I run a specialized Romin on all of my bikes.
Use to run Selle then went to Fizik Gobi and Arione and thought the Gobi was the shit untill I sat on a specialized Phenom.

I did a swap with one of my gobi to a Carbon Gobi snapped the rails and thought I'd try the specialized range, heard good things. Went in and spoke to them, got me fitted trialed the seat for 2-3 weeks and then tried another model.

They said if I tried all there saddles and didn't like any they would refund my money, not many shops will do this unless you have a very good relationship/ they have test saddle.

I ended up going with the Romin, although its a road saddle it matches my profile.

Worst case scenario you try all their saddles and you don't like any, you will get your money back. With any other brand you will have to fork out the money and sell it.

I have these specialised saddles on all my bikes now. They suit me well but may not suit you.

I had a couple of Fizik saddles and hated them both.

It is a very personal thing. What do you have on your other bikes? Why wouldn't you use one of these on your all mountain bike?

+1 for the Phenom.

As mentioned above saddles are a personal thing, but after riding the stock saddle (Spesh - OK saddle) and a Selle Italia Flite Gel (like a plank), IMO the Phenom wins all day long.

I'd also recommend the above tip about getting to a Specialized factory shop and get fitted with the ass-o-metre (fit/test system). They didn't have one of the fitting machines in my local when I bought the Phenom - but I got lucky and it fits me perfectly. I wouldn't hesitate plugging another one.
