The watch thread.

Seiko seems a bit weird - lots of watches for around $1000, then it jumps up to $10k for the Grand Seiko's! I'm a huge fan of Japanese efficiency, but also of resale values - if an Omega will hold it's value and last me 30 years, I might just get that.
I've got a Omega Seamaster in 42mm I could be persuaded to part with if you are keen. About 9 years old very little use... PM me if interested

Just ordered a Seiko SKX007 after a fair bit of research. Seems that it is a bit of a workhorse, simple and reliable. Will be my first ever mechanical watch too.

Pretty stoked!

Think I've nailed my preference to the Seiko MarineMaster 300. Disappointingly it's a JDM model, and i like to try stuff on before I buy. Anyone local in Newcastle have one?

I've got one, it's on my wrist right now and I'm very happy with it.

But FYI mine has the Jubilee band... which is comfy as.

I've only just discovered this thread but I like a nice watch. Currently have 7, 4 of which are nice Mechanicals. Dream watch is this though. This is pure watch porn for me. Can't afford it though, from memory it's retailing in the 13K USD range.

Riding mate dists these in Aus, bit of a plug but some nice stuff, basic simple design and look real good in person.

The grain also makes me think that it is made from bamboo but I could be wrong.

Hmmmm.......the name makes me think, they're made from timber, specifically pine, even more specifically of the engalmanni genus. Then again, I've been wrong before, once before.

If something says it's eco I assume it's just marketing till proven otherwise.

To me it looks like a re-badged(and customised) Chinese watch, although there are some different grain patterns so maybe they are timber....?

Last week I found a watch that I thought I'd lost years back, pretty happy as I just keep grabbing a different watch as the batteries die in the others. This is a cheap nasty Seiko Auto so I never have to get batteries, happy days.

Woohoo, I'm totally stoked with it. I know it's not the flashiest but it's the most I've ever spent on a watch. I love the idea of a little machine on my wrist with moving parts and everything.

I like the metal bands but to be honest I'm a shorts and t-shirt kinda guy so rubber is fine.

Hey guys, I would love some suggestions if possible.

I am looking for a watch that has a silent alarm (vibrating alarm). So far I have found a G-shock and a Timex but both are rather bulky. Timex is my go to brand so out of the two I would go that.

I was wondering if anyone else had some suggestions? Currently I use a fitbit but having to charge it every 2 - 3 days is annoying.

Silent alarm is a necessity as to not wake my wife or daughter at 6am.

Thanks everyone..

I have a G-Shock but the alarm, even with vibrate setting on is quite useless. NO WAY would it wake me up.

Scored my 90 year old Grandfather's Seamaster a few days ago, not the best of circumstances given he's off to a nursing home but a lovely gift nonetheless. From approximately 1964 and all working except I can't set the date so will be off to the watchmaker for a once over this week.

This is what great timepieces are about. Great to see a quality watch handed down to later generations. Sad as the circumstances are, it's a nice reminder of the original owner.

And great justification (excuse) for buying something that will be worth handing down in 1 or 2 generations time.
