Bought this frame off a burner last year and finally decided to bring it home and get a game plan going with it.

Plan is to build it up on the more XC side of trail to compliment my Riot. Built up a Chromag Rootdown a while back, but being another aggressive geo 29er it was just too similar to the Riot to justify owning both so this feels like the better way to go.

Ordered the Fox 32 off CRC last week on special and will be using most 90% of the bits off my Cotic Soul to finish the job. Just need to order some wheels.

It's been a good bike to me! Has done a few 50km races, ridden 90% of the stuff at Buller and Falls and been indestructible. Poor thing has been hitched up to a trailer for a while. Took it for a blast on the local trails last night and I loved it. Such a fun bike. Hoping the Solaris carries over the spirit of this thing, just with bigger wheels.

What camera did you use? the colors on the Cotic have come out really vibrant, no idea what year it may be, interesting that it still as QR on the rear.

Frame is a couple of years old I'm guessing. But still brand new and never used. Cotic only went to maxle rear ends very recently.

Well this didn't go to plan!

So earlier in the year I'd inquired about an Intense Primer frame as I was thinking of upgrading my Riot to something lighter and based more around general trail duties. The price was up there and due to the fact I'd need to convert to boost and a few other little inconveniences I thought I'd stick it out with the Riot for another 12 months and see what Canfield came up with when they announced their carbon version.

What threw a spanner in the works was an email from Stu at Defcon who let me know there was an ex-demo frameset he was getting rid of and the price was too good to pass up, so today I pulled the trigger and ordered it! So that left me with "what the hell am I going to do with the Solaris now...". As it was going to be my more XCish bike to complement my more AM Riot.

Well, I'm still not sure what I'm doing with it but I decided to put the stuff from my Soul on it tonight and the carbon wheels off my Riot onto it and ride it until the Primer gets here and I can build it up.

Got quite a few tidy up things to do to it. But otherwise the spec will remain the same apart from some lighter, faster rolling rubber.

Hung it off the scales and it came in at 12kg (26.5lb) on the dot. Would be awesome to get it down near 11kg with some small changes.

Cut the steerer, presto, 11.950kg.
Seriously though, nice looking rig. I had a BFe and would like a go on one of these.

Well, you know where I live Moorey, so Racing Ralphs are plenty fine for the local trails here haha. Certainly don't have to worry about climbing traction on all those climbs we don't have

I'm fine with this bike being more on the XC side. The dually is what comes out most of the time and certainly all I take when I travel.

But, I do have a 29x2.6 Nobby Nic on the way that I was going to run on the Riot. Would look pretty tough on the front of this...

Picked up some 450ish gram rubber for the daughters bike, on special at CRC the other day. Michelins, and definitely more XC orientated, but they look pretty good. The 2.2 fits a lot bigger than it sounds, and tread looks surprisingly good. There's 800g or so saved on your maxxis right there. Just sayin.

Yeah, those two tyres in the background are 29x2.2 and around 550grams. The DHF on the front weighs 1kg and the Ikon around 800g.

Finished it off (is that even possible?) yesterday morning. Cut the steerer, installed the 29x2.25 Racing Ralphs. They surprisingly fill out the 35mm ID wheels quiet nicely and have a good, rounded profile.

Weighed in at 11.48kg with pedals and bottle mount. Will be a touch heavier once I get a bit more sealant in the tyres. Is there anything worse than swapping out tyres then remembering you've only got a dash of sealant left in the bottom of the bottle?

Still have to rebuild the Guide levers with new pistons. However the problem seems to have abated since the hot weather has gone away, so I'm not in a huge rush to tear them down.

You're doing it wrong. Icon shouldn't weight a fraction of that. My son runs them. EXO, tr, 3c, maxx...

I'd have gone Ikons F+R as I run Maxxis on basically everything. Only bought the Schwalbes as they where a fraction of the price at the time. Mind you, every time I run Schwalbes I suddenly have a bad run of punctures, sidewall weeps and just generally a bad time keeping air in them.

Will see how these go, but I dare say I'll wish I'd ponied up and bought Maxxis again. I have a good stockpile of Maxxis in 29" but they are all aggressive wide things for my trail bike and its not the way I wanted to go with this build.

Love my swobbles...on tracks that I know aren't rocky. Maxxis for the rest. Running maxxis more and more these days. Just for peace of mind.

Love that green.
Sold my BFe in the same colour. Would have kept it if the son had some heart or it was an XL.
Hard to hand it over to the new owner but he's done a solid build on it.
Went to a good home.

Beautiful bike. I've been toying with getting a steel frame HT as the aluminium frame on my Norco Torrent is so stiff that it transmits everything to my hands and feet - and that's with 2.8" rubber.

That's a good build weight. What does the frame weigh?

Good question. I didn't actually weigh the frame before I started adding components to it. Considering I've had the frame sitting in the shed since about November last year, that's an oversight!

Yep, going to list the Soul (along with the Rev fork and Arch wheels) for sale this weekend. Around $450 for the frame/headset
