This thread has made me quite paranoid.

I've just bought my 1st new guitar in ~20 years which is old & unmolested, except for the tuners being swapped out. I have replaced them with more period correct tuners & stuck the others up on the bay. I specified the guitar they had just come off, which is reasonably valuable, in the ad & have immediately got a response from someone who wants to pick up. Thanks to this thread I'm now thinking he's going to work out when I'm not around & pinch the guitar.

Cheers for all the horror stories.
Havnt been robbed yet, maybe if you are worried get a big dog that barks and snarrrrls at anyone they don't know ( or do know even)

Yep...definitely meet him at a cafe and insist he buys you a coffee as part of the sale. Get it in a take away cup of you don't want to talk guitars for a bit.

I just sold the guitar tuners to that guy. Gave him the street number of a townhouse down the road opposite a park. Sat on the park bench & waited for him. He showed up on time, looking every bit the Melbourne muso, was polite & thankful for a good deal.

Now I feel like a bit of a cnut

I trust people when they've earned that trust. Face value means a bit but having some random lob up to my house sussing my stockpile of awesome toys is a deadset absolute fucking no no. It doesn't make me a bad dude, it just means I like to keep what I've earned and share it with people who've earned their place near it.

Coming from spending my professional life in the security game I gotta say this bunch of naive twaddle gave me a great old laugh, thanks, it was well enjoyed.

Jason that runs the bikeshop that got burgled helps less fortunate, some delinquents, youth and women. May have been an assisted person that robbed him, don't think that will change his helpfulness though.
I like the world I'm living in to be honest.
I find that throughout life its those close to you that are more.likely to do you over
