Not sure it’s a black. Might be, I never did understand the ratings though.

Pretty raw trail. No real work beyond clearing the way, most of it is a cross country, deal with all the logging operation ruts as you find them. Three big built rock rollovers - I rode two, one is a bit beyond me!!

It’s good. Open enough to keep some speed up, tough enough that you’re working for it the whole way.

I raced this trail at the nationals a few weeks ago. Rode all the rock features fine, but I can definitely see why some baulk at a couple of them, full committment.

I too hated all the drainage ruts... fkn pain at race pace, but that's racing I guess :)

Probably should have coordinated a group ride, but I headed out today to check out Three Amigos.

Did a couple of runs, it’s a welcome addition, but the climb back up was slow on this bike haha. Like the rock features, will be good when the ruts across the track wears in a bit and gets faster. Might try and see if I can do it on the hardtail.

Also, had a brown snake go under my front wheel coming down Pork Barrell. Too fast to stop, and it was only a young one, but the guy who came down next didn’t see it, so think (hope) I didn’t get it too bad. Certainly gave me an adrenaline rush though!

I'd be up for a group ride.

No snakes coming down Pork Barrel, but a slow run down it as the super fit guy who passed me on the way up was teetering down PB very slowly in front of me. I did ask nicely to pass, but no dice. Must be a roadie.

Did DD today instead, wasnt really feeling it and went with familiar. Hence I got complacent and fudged a tabletop jump on DD and nearly had the back wheel overtake me overhead... Touched some cloth as the front wheel landed a long time before the rear did.

Group ride sounds great. Had a really slow one around lower north area with an old mate and the Mrs, who came down Breakout faster than I have ever seen her ride before, getting used to the suspension and how much easier it is to ride. I had a blast trying Old Duffy Descent no-pedal-no-brake again but did the top section a little slow behind Mrs and then blasted the bottom section to the point where I had to brush the brake just before the rock drop off. Took 1 second off previous time. I reckon there's only a couple more seconds available on this bike, so I'm getting a faster bike :D

If you don't mind someone else tagging along, I'd be keen to come on a group ride sometime too.

I'll be out there on Sunday. I'll probably be horribly hungover tomorrow...

Hopefully its not too smokey.

I`m going to come down this Sunday with friends , and as I`ve not ridden Sparrow or Kowen yet is it worth the ride or is it still logging affected ? Done Stromlo and Majura heaps of times but never the other two or Bruce Ridge for that matter .

Some trails are inaccessible because of logging, but there’s still loads of riding there.

Between Sparrow and Kowen, which share the same trail head, you’ll be able to keep yourself busy.

Had a run on Friday. Three Amigos is good fun, but geez some of those ruts could swallow a 26” wheel... took all the D-lines as it was on my second long lap of the day, look forward to trying it when I’m feeling fresh.

Did Three Amigos today, was by myself so only did one of the hard rocky lines, easy one in the middle. I reckon it will wear in nicely but agree on the ruts, was glad to be on the Bronson. Seems to be called Walsh's Enduro Nationals 2018 on Strava?

So there's new trail approved in Canberra, 12km through the Arboretum

350528

But before anybody gets excited, it's to be for "family-friendly pedestrian use" and "low impact cycling".

And "the government wants to create a trail would allow for the "leisurely traversal" of the arboretum grounds, and have asked for a path which avoids sharp or blind corners and has a gradient no steeper than five per cent at any point."

All the same, it should be a nice place to go for a pedal. The Arboretum is only going to get more beautiful as the trees grow.

I suspect there'll be a few early morning/evening Strava runs going on though...

Well the rest of the walking trails there are fine for MTB use - but much more suited to a gravel bike :)

Not an MTB destination by any means, but a nice little detour if you are riding between stromlo and zoo pines

Might use it as an interesting destination to rebuild my fitness otherwise destroyed by Xmas and weeks of 35-45 degree days.
