Unfortunately, I doubt critical thinking will ever be taught in schools. Schools are primarily for socialisation and developing future workers.
I asked the Mrs (secondary teacher) who advised she does teach it in her Philosophy class but that is a very small percentage of the year group. She says it's a buzz word and "encouraged" apart from when it diverts from the curriculum so given lip service. Having said that I would say my kids are probably better critical thinkers than I was at their age. We can but try to influence our part of the next generation at home!

Perhaps we need to start alternative schools of thought, similar to the Greeks, that are basically like your wifes' philosophy class full time. Here people could explore and debate philosophy, ethics, etc, as a balance to the learning done in traditional schools which is often more about memorisation than learning to be a better human.

Fuck off hippy! We want a subservient class of worker bees to man the factories and consume our shit products. If you start teaching them the think, even worse think for themselves, the system is ruined!

Hahaha!!! Let the green washing begin!
Christ, I thought I was cynical... This is a good thing - they are cracking on with the decarbonisation of the grid and this appointment sends a signal to investors that renewables is still the way to go.

Hahaha!!! Cracking on. That's a good one.

The guy used to work for Ford. He's no messiah. Will appointing this guy enable us to hit our 8.5% per annum CO2 emission reduction requirements? He's just another CEO.

Yes I'm cynical, because I have no reason not to be.

“I’m looking forward to collaborating with market participants, policy makers and stakeholders across the energy industry to help inform and shape the best outcomes for consumers as the technology mix undergoes a dramatic transformation,” Mr Westerman said.

“Australia is leading the world in the adoption of renewable energy systems, and AEMO plays a critical role in maintaining a stable supply of power to the millions of homes and businesses that benefit from the energy these systems provide.
Bwahahahahaaaa!!!!!!!! Leading the world!!!!! Hahahahaa!!!!!

Absolutely cynicism is warranted. Believe me, totally justified

But, believe it or not, Australia is a leader in renewables growth. Of course it could be better...

All the while we are shipping coal offshore in huge volumes & wish to engage in a gas-led recovery of the economy.

Stop smoking the crack pipe.

To be fair, I do tend to look at it as not as bad as it could be and have been too depressed to properly pay attention for a while... What’s the rate in the previous decade like?

Oh - check out 2018, FF growth outgrew renewables!

If you find one that shows Straya is a world leader, let me know.

Looking at those numbers I'd guess solar uptake per capita would be quite good compared to the rest of the world.

Being Australia, big fat sunny country with big fat roofs & fuck all population, sure:

372238

This does not make us a world leader as stated below:

“I’m looking forward to collaborating with market participants, policy makers and stakeholders across the energy industry to help inform and shape the best outcomes for consumers as the technology mix undergoes a dramatic transformation,” Mr Westerman said.

“Australia is leading the world in the adoption of renewable energy systems, and AEMO plays a critical role in maintaining a stable supply of power to the millions of homes and businesses that benefit from the energy these systems provide.
As stated earlier, FF growth outpaced renewables in 2018. OUTPACED!

In fairness lots of places are sunny and it is a per capita graph isn't it?

Not saying there isn't a lot to do but small wins! Shouldn't be too far down the track and we could/should have WA/SA and Tassie all largely renewables I would have though. Does AMEO have any say in what gets built for power generation or just plans and suggests?

I think you are reading it differently - how many sunny rich first world countries only have a population of 25 million? That's skewing the graph.

Again, study this chart:

372239

Annual change of Australia's primary energy supply over the last ten years. Why aren't renewables blowing FFs into the weeds?

Oh that's right - because our energy mix isn't really changing. World leader my arse.
