Go for it! I've got a dirt half pipe near my house that I've built out of an old gully. I need to do some maintenance to it at the moment but it works really well (when the cows don't walk through it :(). Here's some current photo's and I'll put more up when I've go it looking good...

28-30 is a bit too high for me, i ran 19 for one run at stromlo and didnt get a flat, rim out on every rock tho so i put a bit more pressure in. but now running maxxis freeride tubes on bout 23-26 psi and still no flats

Yer the shimano flat shoes are great, super grippy and durable also they are waterproof if you do up the strap properly
