First off, wesadude, I hope you work evening shifts 'cause you seem to start a lot of movies at midnight.

Just watched Brawl in Cell Block 99. So much bone breaking hilariousness. Pure rubbish if you're looking for an original story.
If you like pointlessly absurd comedic ultraviolence, give Mayhem and 68 Kill a gig.

A Boy And His Dog. So much lol, 70's apocalyptic porn. Good stuff.

Get Out. Most excellent.

I'm in WA so I'm a few hours behind the rest of you, I don't start work for a couple of weeks either.

Tonight's viewing was Sully, it was good but not excellent.

That makes sense. As a Canadian X-pat, you'd think I'd know about time zones..... Duh.
Last night's bedtime story: Jack Reacher Never Go Back. The (SPOILER) daughter bit really ruined what I thought would be a mindless - written/directed/produced/staring Tom Cruise flick. Gotta appeal to the other demographic?

The new cloverfield on Netflix.

Im just not that excited by anything Netlix makes lately it was goodish just not 'Great". If you know what I mean? Could just be a budget restriction thing.

Have you watched Altered Carbon? Not movie, but I couldn't find the TV thread.

Bit of a Bladerunner/Chinatown mash up, but done very, very well, production is top notch, which is normally lacking in scifi of either TV or movies.
Some pretty well intergrated nods to Empire Strikes Back, Highlander, Metropolis, Seven Samurai, Total Recall, 5th Element and various manga. Done subtly enough to not pull you out of the story, more of a sly wink than a Stranger Things nudge with a sledgehammer.
Add to that some quality boob, quim, and the odd todger, to cover all the bases, it'd have to be one of the best scifi series in a Meth's age.

Often, Netflix's reliance on cheap, exploitable, non union, non US talent, for its in house productions results in some very wooden performances (I'm looking at you, The Expanse series 2) but the direction must have been top notch here, because aside from the odd stumble from Dichen Lackman (how anyone can be simultaneously bland and melodramatic is beyond my ken) and couple of wanky bit parts like the VR techs, most the performances are spot on, particularly the leads. Not an a-lister amongst the cast, and I'd even go as far as to say, Joel Kinnamann almost redeems his butchering of Robo Cop and Rick Flag. The highlight performances though, are Poe, and Vernon Elliot's gravestone comic relief.

7.8/9 would bang. What Ghost in the Shell should have been.

I actually have commitment issues for any series since "The Pretender" Jarod really hurt me. We were 4 series deep and he was just about to find his Mum and bammm!!! taken off the air with no closure.

I find the Netflix movies just seem "Quick" like they are rushed through and often there are gaping holes in the flow we have just jumped to new point in the plot and I have been left wondering how or what happened. That could be a me thing though the missus often complains I am hopeless at following the story lines.

I know, right. Chunts! Was really looking forward to the reunion.

That's the thing I like about Netflix series, they usually give you the whole deal up front, you can set your own pace, and quite often a series is self contained, like Stranger Things, Dare Devil, Punisher and Altered Carbon. You can set your own pace, doesn't get shifted from prime time to the after 11 slot 3 episodes in like commercial TV toake way for a new series of I'm a Celebrity Back Yard Farmer Wanting A Batchelorette Voice Get Me Out Of My Real Wives Big Brothers Block Kitchen Rules (fuck you channel 9), and if it doesn't get picked up for a sophomore run, you haven't invested the emotional connection, you've been withholding from your family, in something that's going to ghost you without any closure.

And cloverfield is that raised to the power of Jeff Abrhams.

Has he ever made a whole movie? The first cloverfield was unwatchable shite. Fucking found footage movies, Blair should have been the first and last of that genre, watching them is like a Vulcan mind meld with a hyperactive, autistic humming bird with an ice addiction. Cloverfield Lane was a middling to good claustrophobic thriller, then he up an fuct it by spit pasting on a terrible f-grade monster/scifi skit, instead of an actual ending to the movie he was making. Almost like someone edited in 15 minutes of some of Peter Jackson's film school, rejected footage from Brain Damage, while he was in the shitter.

Paradox, peaked and ended with the arm sequence, and the rip-off, Alien "birth" scene was just plain insulting to both us and Scott.

That could be a me thing though the missus often complains I am hopeless and quick.
That's why you got her Netflix in the first place, isn't it?

I would be grateful just for the opportunity to be hopeless and quick at the moment.

Tried that, fucking Bear Grylls broke in and drank the jar dry.....

I however am very normal. Trust me.
The survivalist, it's great, but I can see some people thinking the opposite.

It portrayed fear and tenseness really well, overall had a similar vibe to The Road, and there I wont be watching it again.

He also beats his meat over his plants in the opening scenes, so I am not sure if this beat Bad Boy Bubby for a solid intro.

Kong - Skull Island.

I forgot all about the shit acting, cliche' characters and dumb plot every time the big fella (Kong) was on screen. His complete annihilation of artillery, humans and the local fauna was mesmerising. Watching a monolithic sized ape punch on with an equally terrifying gargantual arse dragging lizard creature was really quite entertaining.

The sub-plot of Hank Marlow a pilot lost on the Island was really quite nice and sweet. The dimwitted type cast John C. Reilly was quite fitting.

The plot was rediculous but as expected.

So I would say

Cast/acting/story line - -5/10

Samuel L Jackson squeezing a 'Motherfucker' into the movie 1/10

Arse whooping, pulp beating primate 10/10

So overall a 6/10

I watched it tonight, red letter media surprisingly gave it a thumbs up so to speak.

The pacing and cinematography was excellent, and the story was 100% retardedly over the top and it was AWESOME.

John C Rielly was also great, seemed to be the only actor that didn't give a shit, so he was great as his character was not wooden.

If one likes something between a monster movie and an adventure film this is a ripper (but don't think to hard about it), if that's not your thing, 6/10 is very on point.

Why the fuck when Kong appeared why didn't the whirly birds scatter?

Black Panther.
Quite simply the best Marvel film I can recall. Right up there with Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Funny, great action, decent plotline and characters and a super soundtrack.

Ummm America...... I thought the same when I watched the movie but if you think about it it would be the 'American" way. Particularly at the time this movie was set. I also think for the dramatic effect the fight is drawn out longer as you see each interaction drawn out in graphic detail.

I also thought the sound track on Kong was great, probs worth another half point for that alone.

Blade runner 2049 stunning cinematography and effects.. Reckon it might actually be better than the original. Can't stand Gosling but his role suited his acting ability so he didn't stick out..
Only let down was Jared Leto, awful over acting as usual..

Watched 'Dunkirk ' last night , thought it was very good -
well made , good actors - more centred around the lives of a few rather than a documentary on the whole story and evacuation.
I'll give it an easy 8 /10 . Worth a watch for sure if you like a good war movie . One I'd probably watch again at some stage anyway .

Alien Covenant. Just didn't rock my world. Far too predictable Prometheus was better. Altered Carbon though is awesome!

I still can't decide if him being a replicant was supposed to be obvious from the first 10 seconds, or if his robotic acting gave it away.

Doesn't say much for you ability when Batista's 2 minutes of screen time outshines your entire lead performance.

Jared can eat a dick, dipped in arsenic, wrapped in razor wire and infected with some exotic fungus.
