I'll let you go search out the original, but I think you could sum it up as "talent show tainted" type of singing where they're constantly moving notes around to try and show of their range and techniques. It's actually not a terrible song, but took people with some talent to showcase it.

Well there you go, didn't even realise the Angus and Julia version was a cover which of course is the hallmark of any good cover.
