Did they disclose they had ground the serial off ?

I went Next SL's to shed weight, had a set of G1's before and never had an issue. The new ones were G5's... hoping they have all issues sorted by now.
Nah they kept it quiet. It is an overseas seller with a lot of OEM Shimano parts, I suspect they are just hiding that they are bypassing geoblocking but it is sneaky AF.

I had a set of Next SL's that developed a loose pedal spindle and were 3 months outside the warranty period and RaceFace were not helpful. I picked up another replacement set online pretty cheaply, but I'm still dirty that they didn't come to the party for a known issue. My current ones are G5's but the fact that they are up to the 5th generation sums up their long term reliability issues....

Noooooo. Get Cannondale Hollowgrams.
I did look at SiSL2s but I couldn't justify the price for their weight. I do really like their modular design and could have used my RaceFace spindle, but I'm not sure if they do actually save any weight over Next SLs.

My Next SLs with a 34t are 447g and the XTR with a 30t are 522g. So I'm taking a 75g weight hit which is more than acceptable for the trade off of returning to a 24mm spindle and the utopia of long lasting $30 Shimano XT threaded bottom brackets.

My SISLs with a 32T are 445g but feel stiffer (as well as more impact resistant) than any of the other carbon cranks I've had. SISL2 crank arms are about 25g lighter for the set.

However, nothing will beat the XTRs for longevity and a threaded BB with 24mm cups is still the ultimate IMHO. Your frame is so light that even with a 75g hit on the cranks you'll end up under 10kg without batting an eyelid.

If it’s only a 75g weight penalty why would you ever consider carbon cranks?

Jesus titty fucking H christ. I don’t understand at all.
Because they are not a enduro bike and all those little 75g's here and there add up.

I went Next SL because of the weight and my past experiences with them, I had the same set on 3 bikes before selling them on my Evil Following.

My Next SL's are exactly 444g with a 32t chainring fitted, the posted internet weights of the the XTR with 32t is 542g.

That 100 grams is a fair bit when weight weenie'ing a build for XC racing and marathon days.

That's a good question. Next SL's used to have other significant advantages like the modular design and direct mount chainrings which Shimano didn't offer. The weight savings over lower end alloy cranks are pretty big as @ozzybmx posted, it just happens that the XTR9100 crankset has closed the gap by dropping significant weight over it's predecessor and having direct mount chainrings.

I wasn't planning on changing the shock, but then Pushy's had a 15% off sale and at 3AM holding a screaming baby in one hand and my credit card in the other I had a moment of weakness. Better than online gambling I guess.

Very impressive weight savings though, this frame is very light! Based on this, sub 9.5kg might be on....

Crying baby, bottles of red, we’ve all been there!

Love the colander. In his noodliness we trust.

I understand more now, maybe I’m scarred from all the bmx cranks I’ve broken over the years and carbon is just too damn scary for me.

I’m iffy on bloody XT cranks hahaha! One set of broken profiles and I ain’t fully confident in anything anymore haha.

Amazing that the Float is >100g lighter than the Deluxe. That is also one crazy light frame. I seem to recall the Scott Sparks being around the 1750g mark and Orbea had a frame around that weight (in medium) which they claimed to be the lightest production full suspension frame in the world last year. If I put my Trance bits on that frame it would be sub 9.4kg with a 170mm dropper and non-step cast Fox 34!

Anyone know what size heat shrink tubing you need to fit 2 cables inside? I was thinking the 10mm or 12mm?

So, my build has been held up by a couple of issues. Firstly, I've got a fork on order that probably won't arrive for another month. Secondly, r2-bike incorrectly processed my payment so I waited 10 weeks for my wheels to get built, while they waited 10 weeks for me to pay for them. Once I contacted them and they realised their error, the wheels and some other parts were in the post within 24 hours.

In the meantime, I haven't fallen in love with the oak green paint. I decided my wife was right and voiding the warranty to strip or repaint it would be a bad idea. I toyed with the idea of wrapping the whole thing, but in the end found a dodgy online Russian making decal kits which were worth a try. I'm not completely sold on it yet, but it does look pretty classy wearing silver. For maximum matchy-matchy I also found some decals for the fork and hubs.

All right, full reveal on the shipment from ze Germans. Stem, handlebar, wheels and dropper lever.

Unfortunately the final piece of the puzzle is the fork and the mid Jan shipment date has been delayed. Currently there is no specified delivery date, definitely regretting selling the SID now :(

Cool looking Newmen stem. I haven't got a weight yet with the Ti bolts but it is surprisingly well priced, aluminium forged and has no weight or usage limitation which is surprising with the advertised weight of 69g.

Mcfk handlebars are stupid light (720mm) and stunning to look at in person. They know their customer base too, the logos are a sticker rather than under the clear coat so they are super easy to remove. Not for weight weenie purposes sadly, the stickers didn't weight much....

The wheels are DT 240's/Sapim CX-Ray/Duke 28mm and came in a tidy 1246g. I am a tiny bit disappointed with how glossy the rim finish is, they looked more matt in online photos. I'll probably get over it though when I ride them...

The final thing is this cute little Shimano MT800 dropper lever. I picked this as it clamps directly to the XTR brake levers and I love a clean cockpit.

Now I just need a fork....

Sigh, relegated to the cupboard of bling until the fork arrives. The delivery date is now May, although I could get one of the bright orange ones in late March.

Not sure how I feel about the bright orange ones, they look pretty cool on some bikes but I don't want to spend a shit load of money and regret it on something that might be hard to sell later.

Get the fork and paint the lowers? Or buy another set of lowers from cyclinic here for $400 and sell the orange set.
