    Enduro Seals - Destroy forks?

I got some Enduro seals fitted seals as I was under the impression they would seal better and thus protect the fork internals from getting manky. They probably did this pretty successfully. What I didn't bargain on was destruction of the low friction coating on the stanchions. When compressing...

    Where to buy XC forks

Another possibility is getting the forks serviced + some new parts. It could potentially work out to be economical. I have a set of F100 RLT's from 2006 which I've always had serviced once or twice a year, so they're generally in good health. I had some Enduro seals in them which destroyed...

    Post Your XC Machine

It's a custom job from Johnny at Cycleunderground. Brilliant rings and top value. I go for the 4 mm plate. It's starting to show some signs of wear after about two and a half years, but it should last for a while longer yet... http://cycleunderground.com.au/chainringdesigns.htm

    Post Your XC Machine

For what I want to do with it, the thing handles great, both going up and down. The geometry is spot on. The gear range is just a bit shorter than a 3x9 set-up with a 11-32 casstte and 22-32-44 up front, so it climbs fine. I'm running 44x17 so the easiest ratio is pretty much equivalent to a...

My Thylacine, custom made for a Rohloff - still making me smile after 5 years of service. The poo brown powder coat got voted off the island, so now it's black...

Tr!ckstuff Exzentriker BB in a DJ frame?

Phil Wood also make a similar item http://www.philwood.com/products/bbpages/philcentric.php I was looking at getting one of these a while back. It didn't happen, but if I recall correctly a few comments I read at the time suggested the Philcentric was a little more robust than the...

Who makes a 16-17" cromolly hardtail with horizontal drop outs?

+ 1 for the Sanderson soloist - a mate of mine was riding one with an alfine for a while. Very nice trail bike. Also: Singular Hummingbird Cotic Simple - Their website says: One small Limited edition frame left.

The "holy f*#k that's a long way to ride a bike" bike packing thread.

Top work Craig. Thanks for posting the updates - it's been great to follow your trip. Very inspiring stuff...it's got me planning my first tour in nearly 10 years.

    Removing bearings from hollowtech cups

Do as udi said. A few other points: I don't have a proper bike workstand, so to make life a little easier before removing the bearings from the cups, I remove the cups from the bike and stick them in an old (steel) frame that I'm happy to clamp in a vice. It's also easier if you only install...

Proflex 856 - Finally Finished, pics updated.

Just dredged this thread up during a fit of acute nostalgia. Impressive builds. I love to see old bikes like this being restored and ridden. I thought I just had back luck with these frames cracking, but it seems I wasn't alone. I had a 1996 beast, 856 and 955 - they were all actually the...

    MonsterX vehicle of your choice?

That's certainly rather nice and close to what I plan for my Peregrine - before the Rohloff and drops comes along. But who knows, I may never get around to putting drop bars on it?? Interesting bit of kit that electric shifter for the Rohloff, not really my cup of tea, but interesting...

    MonsterX vehicle of your choice?

No, but interestingly that's my long term plan. I reckon I might try out a Mittelmeyer shifter. Rohloff shifters dangling of the end of drop bars don't do much for me.

    Best Single Speed Chain

I'd just go with the 710 SL. For what it's worth I suspect the holes in the side plates won't make much difference to the strength. I think drive train care and maintenance would be bigger factors in your chances of breaking a chain in comparison to whether or not the chain you run has holes in...

    Best Single Speed Chain

+1 for the KMC 810 SL and the 710 SL. Plenty strong, they last well and can be had fairly cheaply. They're also available with a gold coloured titanium nitride coating these days if that sort of caper toots your whistle.

    Tasmanian riders. Advise please.

As suggested previously, the trip from Trial to Granville Harbour is gold. Highly recommended. Top riding and stunning coastline - completely different feel to the E coast. In terms of finding some dramatic coastal scenery to take happy snaps of, there are many places on the Tasman Peninsula...

    Discovering Tasmania

There are certainly many less scenic roads you could ride. Weather permitting I reckon it would be worth making the trip to Cockle Creek. There's some good country down around Recherche Bay. If the weather looks truly rubbish when you leave D'port and you don't fancy riding long distances solo...

    Internally Geared Hub?

I'd agree with everything C Dunlop had to say...all very well said. I've got a Rohloff in a hardtail, which I've riding been riding for 4 years now - I have 3 mates who've had similar set ups for about the same length of time and another with an 8 speed Alfine. I wouldn't recommend an...
