    The bike industry crisis

I purchased XTR SPD pedals once because they were on special and were almost the same price as XT. I definitely could not tell any difference between them and my other XT pedals. I do have XTR shifters on 2 bikes. Supposedly they are smoother than the XT shifters of the same era.

BIKE RACKS AND CARRIERS FOR CARS MEGATHREAD - all questions asked and answered here

I have not found the small anti rattle bolts that come on tow bars to be of much use. After driving on country roads, either the end of the bolt mushrooms out or the bolt cuts a groove into the hitch. All of my tow bars have that little bolt, but I am not using them anymore. Some of the tow bar...

BIKE RACKS AND CARRIERS FOR CARS MEGATHREAD - all questions asked and answered here

The MISTER HITCHES Anti-Rattle Hitch Bolt has a usable length of 80mm (bolt head to pin hole). It turns out that the new Subaru Forester tow bar needs a pin with 85mm usable length.

BIKE RACKS AND CARRIERS FOR CARS MEGATHREAD - all questions asked and answered here

I definitely don't recommend the older ISI stabiliser anymore, I can see why they changed the design. I have two of the ISI hitches that are used on two cars. One of them is only on the car when it is being used, and so far has not been a problem. The other one has been attached to a car for a...

A 2021 Giant Trance Advanced Pro 1 has a metal threaded insert on the drive side. The non drive side is just carbon. The head of the axle has a serrated cup that pushes against the carbon face. I assume it is OK for normal use, however I am not going to remove this axle every time the bike is...

Transporting 2 bikes in a vehicle

Some articles have said it is so part of the rack does not poke out into traffic when you turn left. The parts of my rack that stick out beyond the 60% rule are not right at the sides, so they won't end up sticking out into traffic anyway. Lots of 4WDs can handle up to 350kg down force. Even...

It is also totally irrelevant that a particular policeman does not know a law exists. The 60% overhang rule is still law in all states, no matter how ridiculous it seems. I don't want to give a insurance company a possible way of denying a claim, even if unlikely.

I did state in the other thread "This rule does not seem to be enforced by police very often. The only mention I have seen where someone has been booked for this, has been when they have been also booked for something else".
