    Electric Vehicles etc

Looking at novated lease for EV. Probably a mitsu outlander phev. Thing is so expensive (looking at ES for $62k or Aspire for $69k yikes!) but the lease turns out to be reasonable about $240-$260 per week all inclusive for 4 years depending on which spec I get. Based on my hack calculations It...

    Second Hand Bike Recommendation

You'd easily find a decent alu bike new for that sort of money these days. Analogue bikes are the biggest bargains right now. Kona Aus is selling process 153s and 134s for a ridiculous $2500 right now. not sure if they have XL in stock though. Check bikes exchange - plenty of bargains!

I think that's upgrade price, not outright buy. If it's buy, then yeah I'ma load up my credit card lol.

Is that a typo? Seems a lot more than most cars! Actually on the radar to get my learners again. Ebike prices are really dumb compared to motos, e-moto just makes this even more obvious! It's almost as if the derailleur is the most expensive part on a bicycle!

    Life and TPD insurance

I need to follow up too. I'm relying on Super insurance. But asked a question a long time ago when the fund merged, crickets. Better follow up. But it's chasing the tail. They renew these policies so you technically should be looking at them annually!

eBike with best reliability and repairable.

I think there are some reliable brands. Most folks seem to do dengfu builds. I did look at this but the pricing is fairly off. Looking at about a $7k build if I calculated the duties correctly. Volition do a dengfu frame bafang for under $5k. I swear they could sell so much more if they just...

    home and contents insurance

Makes sense. Tell the sotherners, it goes up because insurance and risk is pooled. Then at the same time charge the northerners like wounded bulls.

    home and contents insurance

I tend to be the guy that maxes out my excess to reduce my premium. My house insurance is something like $5k excess. I figure if it burns down, $5k is nothing compared to the payout figure. What this means though is that the excess for claims on contents (i.e. theft) is also $5k. As a result I...

eBike with best reliability and repairable.

Cheers @Stredda . I've been thinking about it and yeah shimano is off the list for that reaason. Pity, they seem ok but locking out thrid parties while not having an adequate supply chain is a real dick move - somthing I'd expect from sram! Bosch is on the list but they have just changed...

    The bike industry crisis

Yep echoed my thoughts exactly. Change of ethos from, we are going to do steel legendary bikes like the rove to whatever that is supposed to be...

    The bike industry crisis

Explains why the 153s I'm looking at seem to be ridiculous value!

    Bargain buys thread

Rookie ebiker. You don't need to drink water when the bike is doing most of the work. The underside bosses are for a range extender battery! :P

    The bike industry crisis

It's kind of sad, those two brands in particular are what I call the people's choice. Kona is a cherished brand for heaps of riders hailing back to the stinky era. Marin is the affordable powerhouse that brings mtb to the masses with sharp pricing. Going by the limited release of kona models...

    The HiFi thread

Not strictly HiFi. But my trusty 10 year old sennheisers decided to give up and went through the motions. Shortlisted B&W Px7s2e and XM5. Ended up with the B&W. Somewhat disappointed. The ANC is second to the sony, as is the mic. The build quality and sound quality imo is better. But man this...

    Little Things You Hate

Decided to give hte bike a once over before a ride this weekend. Checked and topped up pressures on tyres and shocks. Mixed up pressure for the fork because pikes run pretty low pressure apparently. Anyways it was obviously over pressurised and I noticed on the trail. Too scared to...

    Blind rider saying hi

My 2c, a huge part of what you are feeling is actually just modern geometry, and specifically slack (headtube angle). Something like a modern XC hardtail will improve and get your slack numbers back to 'normal' but it comes with its own compromises. Like someone said, hire a few out and see...

    The QUICK question thread.....

Did fivetens go to crap and get bought out by someone? had an old pair I used for about 6 years until the sole wore out from the pedal pins and it started absorbing water on wet rides. The current pair I have is already peeling at the toes, 4 months in...

eBike with best reliability and repairable.

Looking at the M820 which has torque sensing and seems to be light 2.3kg (relative to other bafang tank-bricks). Comes with their own battery system and apparently all the frames are bolt in plug and play. This is a relatively new unit though and they did change mount from the M500/600 series...

eBike with best reliability and repairable.

Pretty much what I am doing. The 20kg weight is because that's about where I'd want it to be. But above all motor reliability. As for suspension design etc, i'm in the camp of them being all more or less the same give or take. I'm not riding at that much of the limit to notice slight geo changes...
