Have searched and can't believe there's nothing up yet? Please correct me if I'm wrong though.

I'm sitting here, beer in hand loving seeing the Ashes on SBS. Would be better day time but we'll have to wait for that.

Currently 2/67 with Mitchell Johnson ripping in a nice bouncer to Straus.

Anyone else watching and ant tips?

Pity Bing aint playing too, although Hilf is swinging and Siddle will be suitably mongrel to make up.

Go Aussies

I'll check it out after the chaser, looking forward to getting back into the cricket though.

Sitting here with dad watching now. LBW shout for Pieterson's first ball. Too high though.

Go Hilfy! Tassie reppin'

Was any of that in english?

3/97 I recall at play lunch. Johno is starting to rip in!! (english version withheld for Stella;))

good to see that bopara bloke on his way. He looked way out of sorts, pretty lucky to get to 35 really. was starting to piss me off when he kept hanging in there.

Mitch is doing alright, but as the commentators have been saying, he needs to get the seam up and only scramble it on a slower ball like the one that he got bopara with. At least try an upright seam to see what it does for him, anyway.

Siddle and Hilfenhaus both look pretty good so far, all things considered. I have never rated Hilfy at all, but he's done well so far. Very solid.

A few selection mysteries though..... can't believe Stew Clark missed out. Why, oh why, do they insist on playing Hauritz?? The guy can't bowl, why don't we just accept that we don't have a 1st class spinner, and stack the attack with mediums? Let the part timers roll their arm over if the wicket is turning, but Hauritz is not international standard, he's domestic at best.

Noice wun ay Stella maite! Ay! Wodjia reckon maite got the good oiyools or wot maite eh!?! Shood bei a rippin seeereez aiy!!

*Translation* i say Sir POSM, fine show, wouldn't you agree? My dear fellow, in your opinion would you consider us (the colonials) to 'have what it takes' so to speak to engage the English at a competitive level? Or, contrarily, not? Oh how I do look forward to what promises to be a most enjoyable Ashes series! Tally' ho!

also good to see the welsh crowd throwing some humour into the mix. that last appeal was ambitious at best, funny stuff.

Double Post

1) Don't care that Bing's out, too expensive when not on fire which is 85% of the time
2) Totally agree, why the hell isn't Stew in there? He's solid as a rock and is excellent.. Takes regular wickets but, unlike Lee, when not taking wickets keeps the runs in check and applies huge pressure
3) Agreed on Hauritz. Shithouse. Cannot understand his selection time and time again. I'd rather Krazy get another go.
4) Cliche, but I miss Warne and McGrath.:(

re hauritz, I'm just going to assume (read hope) that krazy is injured.... otherwise the selection panel is fucked. If we're going to play a spinner, krezja is the man, nobody else.

Having said that though, I have no vendetta against hauritz and if he performs on the big stage I'll say good on him.

Did you not see Krezja's figures last summer? one of them included something like 1/115 of not enough overs to justify that amount of runs. He did well with the bat yes, but he was in the team as predominately in the team as a bowler.

Well, back to the 1st test, 3/97 at lunch is a good start for Australia. Bout to start back in a few minutes.

Yeah I agree, that's why I'd say no spinner.... but if they're going to choose one anyway, I'd take krezja over hauritz. Neither have done much, I just have a personal preference for him.

Ideal situation imo would be to drop hauritz and include stewie clark. But you never know, hauritz might bowl in this session and take some wickets.... good luck to him if he does.

Yep, 3/97 is a pretty good start, a few less runs would have been good on what seems to be an unpredictable pitch.

Haven't started watching yet so I'm free to make some baseless claims:

>Don't care about Lee, been steadily declining for years anyway.
>HOW COULD THEY LEAVE OUT STUART CLARK??? Sure he might not be a 'strike' bowler, but his figures are far better than Siddle or Hilfenhaus, and he is a bowler that builds a lot of pressure and creates wickets for others. Those two could take a leaf out of his book and try to hit line and length once in a while.
>Hauritz=Trash, he is hopeless, Krezja=Just as hopeless with a funny shaped head, Mcgain= laugh out loud. Can't believe there are no decent spinners in our whole country, not expecting the another warnie, but surely we can produce better than this.

My predictions:
Australia to win the series, naturally:D
>Ponting=shit, will make a token century sometime, but overall have a poor series, contributing little in pressure situations...he won't come under much scrutiny because Australia will win.
>Phil Hughes, hope he makes a mountain of runs, looks to be a great young cricketer good luck to him.
>Hussey to step up and find some form again after a lean couple of seasons.

Im off to watch prison break, then I will watch some cricket and come back with some worthwhile opinions.

re:
1: Obviously didn't watch the game against england lions did we?.. Brett Lee is the only bowler in the line-up with any sort of experience in England bowling conditions (test obviously - barring ODI's and County), and that is why he is so valuable. He showed that experience with his use of reverse swing in the game against england lions, much more threatening then Stew, mitch or siddle.

2: Lions match: Stew didn't bowl that well. I think they have not put him in there for 1st test to get his confidence up..He didn't bowl that well in the tour match, and what happened in 2005 ashes - Gillespie and Kasper were put in based on past performance (as stew may have been,) and look what happened to them. They got demoralised, and nothing happened much in their careers after that. Hilfy is suited to england, as he came from Tassie with similar weather conditions, and Siddle is in there to replace the fire Lee brought, which can not be replaced by Clark.
For all the talk about Mitch apparently being a "swing" bowler - what the hell?? He came from queensland ffs!. He has been brought up to bowl hard and fast, on fast, bouncy wickets, arguably the Gabba is the quickest wicket going around these days. Look how well he did in South Africa.

3. 4. Bloody good points!

Well I tuned over and England were 3 for 200 odd and Hauritz was sending down pies and I thought Oh Dear we are about to get flogged....but somehow England manages to stuff it up.
Pietersen always seems to make 60-80 and then just throw it away for no reason, he really should come under more scrutiny because if he could capatalise on his talent England would win a lot more test matches!
7/330 places us very well I think, the pitch has nothing in it, conditions are good for batting and Australia has zero firepower in their bowling lineup, England should really be 5/400 or thereabouts.

Prediciting England to get wrapped up for under 350, and Australia to make a very solid start with Hughes getting at least 50.
