Yep, NextG works a treat at Stromlo, so grab a pre paid SIM and you're away.
sorry, i don't want to nerd up a storm, but are you on 850mHz at stromlo? I've got a non-telstra phone (ie 900/1900/2100 as opposed to next g phones that are 850/1900/2100) - grabbing a telstra sim won't help me if it's 850 cos my phone can't do that :\

it *may* fall back to 3G

On the nerd-front. Can someone recommend how to hook my laptop up to the internet at Stromlo? Can I buy temporary access with a provider with coverage there, or is that wishful thinking?

Work for a Telco ;)

I *think* BigPond at least have prepaid NextG dongles. means having to buy a dongle. if your phone has a usb cable, you may also be able to Tether with whatever phone provider you have. Short of CORC organising an Access point somewhere...

Cheers

Ah, thanks. I thought it would be pushing luck a bit. We'll manage with just the intranet for results. It isn't as if my pit will have any time free anyway :)

Arvo tea and social ride for girl racers on Thurs arvo.

Local girl racers would like to invite visiting girl racers to afternoon tea and a social ride on Thursday arvo, 3pm at the Stromlo Pavillion.

Sorry, we would have invited everyone, but we just don't have the capacity to cook that much food. Blokes are welcome if accompanied by a female competitor. More details at:

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=153856817978020

Probably do a quiet lap and check out some lines on Monday morning if there are any girls who want to join us.

The crit track one was clarified in an earlier post with an, oops that's wrong the teams will be goin the same direction through the transition area, just drew it up wrong.
The other one up the top of the hill, what looks like a T intersection I think that was to be confrimed how that's gonna work, maybe put a bridge over it or something.
That was the last I'd read anyway.

edit. beat me to it Raf.
Is Pork Barrell really messed up at the moment? I didn't think it was that bad last year.
The cross over at Echidna Junction will be a bridge, those heading off the fire road pinch go over the top onto Roller Coaster. Those heading to Western Wedgetail under; hopefully it will work a treat. There will also be a Scouts van up there to keep an eye on you all ;-)

We put some work in on Pork Barrel today, the recent riding and rain have made a huge difference and we have made a few alterations to the roll-out from the rock rollover. It was interesting watching a few riders 'session' both the A and B lines of Pork Barrel and making it look easy and smooth...

Cheers!

I understand I should toughen up and take a spoon of cement etc etc, so ok, I accept what I say is just winging......but by the 3rd lap through that in training on Tuesday, on dusk, I was hangin on for dear life.

By 3am?.....they will need more ambulances is all Im saying.

I decided to buy a second set of lights to enhance the depth of field after that ride. A helmet mounted light does nothing through there except hide the traps.

I will slink away now. Apologies for being a sissy.

Raf
Well, we put a B line on for a reason mate ;-)

B-line on Porkbarrel

All praise the B-line on Porkbarrel:)

I was going to ask if it would be open, but was too scared that you might say no and then I would be phased for the whole week.

I was all fine with the A-line until a few weeks ago when I had a disagreement with a rock in the exit corner from the roll-over. Now I'm phased.

I rode the rest of Porkbarrel today - it was fine (though I always thought it was OK barring the rollover). It is definitely better now.

The corc website seems to be working for me. In the world solos course section it shows the stromlo mtb map...

stromlo mtb map.jpg

and in the news section it shows the proposed race courses for the wsc and scott...

View attachment wsc and scott courses.pdf

but neither of these indicate where pork barrel is, or any of the other track obstacle sections being discussed.

I suspect the map I'd like to see may not exist except in the heads of the local riders and trail builders but it'd certainly help us non-locals.

Nope,
reason being I would much rather be comfortable from the start as I feel the first 3-4hr really set you up both within the comfort of riding but hydration/nutrition and energy conservation. Riding a HT from the begining will have you out of the saddle through rougher sections putting unnecessary load on the legs when you could be sitting and flowing through the sections.

My 2 cents

Pork Barrel is the blue trail that runs from grid F-11 to where it meets the green trail on the edge of grid F-9. The rock rollover they are talking about is in grid E-11.:)

Cheers!

Yeah, me neither. A couple of minutes bonus climbing time in the first few laps will become many minutes deficit by the end.

Cool, thanks... but am I right that a map with that level of detail doesn't actually exist?
