2023 Norco Sight... are they ok?

Lazmo

Old and hopeless
Howdy youse all,

With my Kona gone, and a shadow cast over the brands future, plus we are down one Stumpjumper, I'm looking at some replacements.

How does the 2023 Norco Sight stack up ... the A2 or the A3?

Are they a good bike? I do like the Shimano-ness of them, and the BB is screw in, which is nice. I'm over PF.

They still have 27.5 as an option, but nowhere near as plentiful as 29's. Should I scout out two 27.5's or give in to the 29?

Any other brands at similar price points I should look at?

I know we are over-biked for the bulk of what we do, but I don't care, we want to be able to survive the occasional rock garden/root staircase without going otb.

I like em, almost bought one.
Can be a little chunky for a trail bike, especially the A's.
But the main thing that stopped me was the sizing. There is a big jump in reach between M and L, neither felt quiet right for my 176cm height.

I know of 3 (1 is only 6 months old) and have all been good, great value for money geo is on point A1 are the pick with the better suspension components.
I'm a 29 convert so biased there.

I love my optic, but its a big undergunned around my local trails. I'd be keen on one of the sight frames, but am wary of any frame that is supposedly 27.5 and 29 compatible without any changes in geometry

2015 was peak Norco Sight! :p

One of the best and most versatile bikes you'll consider buying. They are 100% awesome.

Have a 2016 vintage sight. Tried a more modern one, the reach is not in the sweet spot for me. Probably a problem for all modern geo bikes with super long spine killing reach numbers.

Given that we are likely to be rolling on 29" wheels, I wonder whether we should go to more of a trail bike than an all-mountain bike, like the Fluid, or equivalent...?

Are TRP Trail Evo brakes, the 4 piston ones... any good...?

The Fluid FS A1 and the Commencal Tempo have them.

What's your budget @Lazmo?

Budget for two bikes.. one for me and one for my wife, is $11,000.

I'm not a bike brand loyalist, so will ride whatever.

The type of bike would be trail bikes, but tending towards all-mountain... we are old, and don't want to go OTB any more. So would rather something that climbs well, doesn't weigh a ton, but can still manage rock gardens and root staircases. Not asking much.

They need to be aluminium, as I don't want carbon, because they spend a lot of time bouncing around on a caravan rack.

I would prefer 27.5" wheels, but am not precious about it, if it's a better bike with 29" wheels, well that is fine.

On the components side of it, I much prefer Shimano to SRAM, and loath PF so a screw in BB would be ace, but not a deal breaker.

Happy for your input...

The obvious choice is for you to share an ActoFive.

Supersport have got a Transition sale on, you could get a couple of Scouts for your budget and stick with 27.5 - maybe not the lightest option.

Spesh have alloy Stumpys for $3599 and highish spec Stumpy Evos for $5999

Ripley / Ripmo AF in the deore build? Been some insane deals recently (not sure if ended now though). Threaded BBs, pretty low maintenance linkages with the bushings etc.

I can vouch for the Scout, pretty rad bike. Not the best for climbing but not the worst either. Great for going downhill with a bit of confidence. Being a 27.5 doesnt feel 'overly' big to me given Im on the shorter side.
Its no XC monster but Ive done 20 or so odd trips with mine on the roof from Canberra to QLD/Toowoomba and only one thing has fallen off (Fox top cap)/she's survived pretty well (even in big winds), so safe for a Caravan mount etc.

If your near Bright end of May then feel free to let me know. I've got a Medium stock as a rock pretty much apart from a few cockpit things.
