Not to sure about the 661's but can say the 5/10's are great can't go past them. The soles are very good you get sole marking but nothing much don't chunk out or anything like that. All in all there costly but well worth the money.

i've got a set of 5 10 karver's they would be the best riding shoes i've ever used. had them for a few months and cant notice any damage on the sole.

You are comparing a shoe designed for flat pedals only and a show that will do both. I would go with the one that is designed for flats.

shoes

go with the five/ten, as the 661 have a metal plate in them and you won't be able to feel what your feet are doing on the pedals. I tried it once with flats and a set of 661 (SPD type shoes) and they felt terrible and also ended snapping my collarbone because it all felt wrong. The five/tens last heaps long. Go the five/tens.

ive had my 5 10 s for about 2 years now, only the colour has faded a little and i had to get new laces, which is expected for any shoe. great riding shoes. highly recomended

personally i've always thought that the 5/10s are trucking ugly.

hence i went for the 661s. I have had mine for close to a year and have been worn pretty regularly.

at first they felt strange because of the stiff sole (especially cause i was using sneakers) but had completely forgotten about that till i read this post.

i use them on flat pedals too with kona wah wah pedals and i have found the grip fantastic, almost to the point where it can be a pain cause you have to lift your foot a little to reposition. the grip layout of the 661s is great as the pins of pedals slot into the grooves.

i'll probably get these next though, but not because i was unhappy with the 661s:

Could you use these shoes for day to day, wear down to the shops kinda use as well as on the bike or are they too stiff and uncomfortable?

Not having plenty of $$$ it would be good to get some use out of them as the missus would put a stop to the purchase pretty quick!
