So i'm building up a 24" rear wheel for my DH bike, well i got this in on Friday, took it to my LBS to get it laced up and the owner starts on with "why did you buy that ? we've had nothing but problems with that Aireal stuff, the hub bodies just explode" Now this owner is a roadie, the young guy that builds my wheels reckons that Aireal is tha shit(good) as do most of the other staff in this shop.

Whats your opinions on Aireal stuff ??

Happy Socket ??

I've got a fairly new front hub and i've been quite happy with it, it felt smooth as a baby's ass when i got it, it looks extremely well made and I like the simple conversion(20mm/QR) stuff. I can't really say to much about durability or strength, i've only had it two weeks or so.... "the hub bodies just explode" ?? that sounds a bit wak!

My friend had the bearings in his rear Aireal die after about 6 weeks but they replaced it for him no probs. That was a while ago now, and he hasn't had any troubles with it since. Just a dud cartridge bearing I guess. Sometimes you get a faulty batch, and the bearings aren't manufactured by Aireal, so it was in no way their fault.

And damn that ano'd blue looks schmick :D

I dont' reckon you can go wrong, infact, I will be getting an aireal front hub when I get my front wheel. Aussie company so if anything does happen to go wrong you can give jed a call up at aireal industries and I am sure he will fix you up :) They ain't goign to be a hadley but for the price range I dont' reckon you can get much better :)

My biggest motivation getting one was to support a australian company that were running a smart buisness, no fancy gimmicks, just solid parts for a good price.

Well this isn't to do with their hubs but it will give you an insight into their high level of customer service.

I bought one of Aireal's chainguides and discovered it wouldn't fit my BigHit due to the ISCG monts weleded onto my bottom bracket. I explained this to Aireal and they said send it off to them and they'll machine the bit around the bottom bracket mounting area of the chainguide backplate, so it fits. So I sent it off and it was back in 2 days again, and all I had to pay was postage. I was very impressed.
Oh yeah, and they chainguide works great!

Cool, cheers guys, yeah i have a front hub and i'm pretty happy with it. Nothing to complain about put it that way.

And like Kalem, it makes me feel good supporting a small Aussie company.

That's the first bad word I've heard about Aireal... my chainguide has been impeccable, even under my poor setup abilities :)

The hubs always seemed pretty sweet to me, everyone I've seen with em has been happy with em.

Don't think of it as a bad word, I don't. The chainguide has got extra beef around the bottom brack area (where the grub screw is), which is awesome. It just happened that it didn't fit the way my bb shell is designed. They went out of their way to make it fit for me. :D

Props to Aireal once again.

I was thinking that actually, but like I said, it was a bearing prob, the clutch and body are fine.

PS. On a side note, I think I'll be getting an Aireal stem for my hardtail :D

Ive had a Aireal rear hub for almost 10 months ,I had bent the rear quick release axle with no damage to the hub,I had a freewheel problem with it gave jed a call and he sent me some new ends for it and have not had a problem within the last 8 months of riding. :D AWESOME STUFF :D

well i've never actualy used an aireal mountain bike part but the microphone company RODE uses parts machined by the same guys at aireal and there gear is unreal for the price, there $1000 microphones are on the same level as other companys $3000 mics, some of the tiny machined parts have insane detail for there size, so based on this i reckon there hub internals much also be of top quality.

Don't buy it just yet ! Chatting to Jed last week about CNC machines etc he mentioned that they have a few new products on their way. I can't say any more but maybe hold out on that stem for a month or so if you can.

Sweet, thanks for the heads up mate. I'll probably be getting it in about a few weeks anyway. I'm awaiting to hear more info on my frame 1st. Without the frame, the stem is pretty useless :)
