Another day another collarbone

So took the hardtail out for a spin today. Rebuild nearly complete and was going to give it a good test with the new gearing. Well about 10ks in clipped a tree and before I knew it was picking myself up off the ground. Been here before and proceeded to walk out. Pissed as I walked my bike down the old down hill track. Lucky for me there was another rider setting off for a ride close to the car park and was able to load my bike for me. Drove to the hospital and to no surprise collarbone broken.

So now I get to be plated up (again x3) and sit it out for the Christmas break. The good, no damage to the bike. Wish I bounced like I used to. Bitch over and F—k you collarbones.

Will have plenty of time for Netflix and you tube, I’ll have to check it out. Last time this happened I ended up building another bike. That’s what happens with to much time on your hands

sounds like you need the Ti insert & leave it in permanently
Last time I had a ss plate. Surgeon wanted to remove it cause he said it’s stronger and if was to fall on it again it would damage shoulder or neck as they become the weakest like. I am seriously considering getting a bone density test though because I can’t believe it broke from this fall.

Damn mate that is shit house and even worse timing just before Summer :(

Sounds like you are well practised with the recovery process so will just wish you well.

If you do get it fixed definately consider whether internal Ti screw is an option. You will need to find the right surgeon who offers it.

Shit one Scotty !

2 blokes I ride with, one behind me on a jumps line 4 weeks ago, got bucked off on the take off when he compressed his suspension and a small saddlebag with a tube in it jammed and stopped the back tyre dead, collarbone cracked and muscle damage.
The other 3 weeks ago, wiped out on a corner and hit the ground spectacularly apparently, smashed in 3 places.

The one with the crack is still in pain, the one with the smashed and plated collarbone reckons he's right as rain already !

Happy healing :)

Specialist appointment went as expected back for surgery Wednesday. Will be the same style plate as last time. I’d hoped for just screws but unfortunately in to many pieces.

Get yourself on a rear wheeled mounted trainer. I hope all goes well for you with the plate and you'll be back on the bike in no time.

That sucks mate. I have a close mate out at the moment with Broken Collarbone and Pelvis at the same time... came unclipped off a drop. He's been out of riding so far 8 weeks or more.

I then proceeded the following weekend have my super3r chin bar fold into my face and rip it open and break 3 teeth... Emergency Plastic Surgery and ongoing dental work (next is a root canal now). I was out riding 2 weeks later though, but at half pace everywhere, still easing into sending it again.

MTB is both the best thing in the world, and one of the most ruthless. Do not fight the mountain.

It's kinda funny how we all break differently, never done a collarbone but x5 broken wrists (4 left, 1 right).
5 wrists that’s gotta suck. I’ve done my right wrist twice (not a pleasant experience). I have had a lot of injuries over the years. Mainly from dirt bikes and motorbikes. This collarbone is the first mtb injury I’ve had (that is my fault). Twelve months ago I was the victim of a hit and run with a car on my mtb and broke my left collarbone. I count myself lucky injury wise so far from the sport. Been riding for 4 years and apart from a few bumps and bruises have been injury free.

I have been thinking about a trainer. What trainer did you go with? Is a cheapy worth it?
I had an old magnet Aldi trainer lying around and it was pretty noisy at higher speeds, not sure what the neighbours thought when I would try to hold the fastest cadence and speed to beat the boredom of being on the trainer. I ran a free app on my phone that connected to a Garmin cadence and speed sensor, I used to practise doing sprint intervals with the minute counter on the app while having the phone strapped to the bars. You can compare your training sessions for a bit of fun and see how you are advancing if any and luckily I had an I-pod to drain the noise out and keep my mind occupied.

If you can, spruik for a fluid trainer has the tyre run on a wheel to get resistance. Alot quieter, and doesn’t wear the rim like some others.
