Another Death:-(

I read this on the weekend, and there were unconfirmed reports he was riding the wrong way on the freeway. Unconfirmed though.

Always a sad story.

Yeah, there was pretty scant detail so I guess it could've happened in all sorts of ways.

[That exposes my 'filters' I guess - I read the story and immediately a pictured a well behaved bike mown down by inattentive driver! I spose I'll never be completely neutral and even handed, waiting for all the info to be at hand, but it'd be nice!]

Whatever, still very sad...

I just clicked the link to which I found out the rider is still alive - albeit in a critical condition but alive. Police bungled the reporting of the incident.

I live about a minute away from where the poor guy was hit. There is a bicycle lane along this section of road but it's just the shoulder and not properly maintained. However, the way I usually commute is along another highway which is 80km/h and no bike lanes and is a popular training route. It would be really nice if the council paid attention to the southern suburbs. They have built a nice bike track all along the beach in the northern suburbs yet us in the south miss out.

I really hope he makes a full recovery. There shouldn't be a need to ride alongside 100km/h traffic.

Just a follow up, there was an article in the Daily Telegraph today saying the cyclist was in an induced coma. I dare say he's no where out of the woods at this stage but indeed he is getting the best possible care to make a recovery.

There shouldn't be a need to ride alongside 100km/h traffic.

70% of my road riding is alongside 100km/hr traffic. One long section has no shoulder at all, I fear getting tugged under a semi one day and turn into road kill. Road Riding is incredibly dangerous IMO and why I like MTB .

Just another update.

Local news reported that he passed away this afternoon after his life support was turned off.

:(
