Hi, I'm looking at upgrading my bike for the first time in 8 years and need some advice on current geometry as things seem to have moved on in that time. I'm currently on a 05 Heckler (large). I've been looking at the Avanti Torrent - good prices at the moment and look to be a good solid frame. I sat on a large on the weekend but it did feel quite long but it did have a fairly long stem on it (80-90mm). I would have tried a medium, but no-one seems to have any in stock.
From what I can gather the latest trend is for a long top tube and a short stem. Looking at the geometry of the torrent I can get pretty much the same reach as my heckler by using a 60mm stem on the torrent. How is this going to feel compared to a shorter frame with longer stem?
The numbers:
Heckler TT is 594 + 90mm stem
Torrent TT is 615 + 60mm stem
