Avatars not displaying

Last night something happened and I can no longer see anyone's avatar
In general settings i have 'show avatars' ticked
Have tried refreshing it this morning to no avail

Any suggestions
Not nearly as much fun with no avatars showing :-(

I just assume these things happen to my computer only

I'm sure Scott is on the case, the site has had quite a bit of downtime over the last few weeks due to ghosts in the machine...
