I'd love to start taking my 18 month old daughter on some rides on the flat around the local seascape and am wondering what the best baby seats out there are?

Are the seats where the baby sits in front of you on the top tube the safest?

Would need to work with a dual suspension if possible, I've got a Polygon Siskiu T8.

Any advice is appreciated!

Cheers

I'm considering the Shotgun Pro Evo, which starts off as a bucket with a front rail, but once they are older, can be converted into a normal seat without the back and with handlebars instead.

The Yepp was great for mild singletrack, rail trail and cycleway.

Was mostly used for playground outings.

Limiting factor is the seat itself limiting your steering and body position.

Used the Yepp from 12 months to ~2.5yrs old

Now have the OG kids ride shotgun seat and that's much more maneuverable once the kids are bigger but miss 5 now has a 20" Scott Roxter

I had a Macride which was pretty good. Was used on a hardtail with a dropper but will work on a dually. Front and center between your arms is much safer than behind you. No weird balance, they are literally between your arms and you can chat and point stuff out.
Don’t be this guy!

Macrides are a good option. I had a couple of attachments so could run on different bikes. You can also buy the bar grips for them but really no need.

I used the wee ride classic from about 20 months. Strapped in, somewhere the he feet and her hands/head. If you were in Melbourne you could have it.
I only did one single track ride on it - the hardtail was too bumpy for my daughter. It did a fair few trips to the park and on the bike track. Just be careful the don't pull on the breaks or activate the dropper. Having a dropper makes it so much easier to get on an off the bike while having a half reasonable seating position.

I had a Weeride deluxe that my kids used from about 12 months until 2.5 years old.
After that I put them on a Dolittle seat until about 4 years of age. I liked the Dolittle as it was lighter and quicker to install than the Shotgun. Having said that, the shotgun seat I had was the original and they have adjusted the design a bit since then.

As @Jpez and others have said, front mounted seat all the way. There's nothing better than being able to cuddle, chat and keep an eye on them. Especially when they get a bit drowsy! I've had to cradle both my kids home after they've fallen asleep on the dolittle seat.

weeride for 9/10 months - 18 m. Regularly on sale as well. The pad at the front was great for a mid ride snooze.
Got the shotgun too early but could use the bars with the weeride seat. then the shotgun setup for rides in the woods.
Shotgun pro is a big improvement over mk1 model. The ability to take it off without tools and stash it in the bag is great.

Is anyone running a shotgun or macride etc on a bike with coil forks and/or shock?

How do you deal with carrying the extra weight if its also your usual trail bike for riding solo?

I could add a couple of turns of preload on the shock which in theory let's me carry an extra 12kg without affecting sag. No idea how i'd stop the fork from sagging heaps though.

Edit: just fixed my calcs and with leverage ratio I only gain 4.5kg, so that idea is out the window..

Later in year I'm gonna hit a crossroads where I might ever have to convert the Titan to air suspension, or buy an eeb for family rides.

Not sure you will actually notice the difference @teK--
You will be doing a totally different type of riding.
That is true..

At first I might even fit the shottie to the gravel bike as we'd be starting on paved areas.

Then onto the MTB with some green trails, which might not be so bad with the suspension saggy. At least it should be more or less the same amount of extra sag front/rear.

By the time she's big enough for blue trails she'll be so heavy I would definitely want an eeb.

I had my seat on a hardtail - fine for bike paths and commuting but wasn't enjoyable for my daughter on single track. A lounge chair ride on a dually might give you a bike convert for life.
