As @Isildur mentioned, Aus sellers sometimes engage in the "increase price to discount down" behaviour.
It always pays as he says to know the RRP or whatever the product is being sold for before any 'sale'. Sometimes there is a noticable difference in non-sale prices even among all the Aus websites.
It is well worth your while looking at UK, German, Italian etc sites, as some products - eg tyres - can be significantly cheaper even after factoring in freight to Australia. sometimes the freight cost kills any savings. The "Muricans seem to be notorious for that. It depends on what you want to buy.
