Yes. It sits between your bottom bracket and the frame, then you screw the chain guide to it.

It has a Mount guide but I just think a small and cheap guide would be cool, no big rush as I am going to try guideless to start, don't really wont to file the crank because I may well buy a dedicated single ring crank soon and may need to offload the xt if that happens

Just picked up a 2016 habit carbon/alloy frame in medium for $413. The list hasn't been updated in a while so the black Inc carbon frames are all gone but give them a call they are really nice guys and will tell you what they have left.
