BH Lynx pivot hardware

For all the BH owners,
BEFORE you all stuff your torx drive caps on your BH frames, they are NOT torx drive.
They are torx plus.
You'll need to go to a specialist tool shop and order a set.

In another thread there is discussion about the middle pivot cap being easily damaged - a T40 fits really loose in the middle pivot. The others like the T30 are not too sloppy, but the right drives will make all the difference.
Apparently its a European thing... The rear wheel pivot on my BH 4.8 frame has a torx shape that appears very rounded in the splines...that appears to be about a torx plus 60. A standard T60 is far looser than a 12mm allen key though. I cant seem to source the equivalent of a T60 Torx plus, so just be careful on that pivot.

Some of the engineering types on RB might have some thoughts.

Hope that saves someone some grief.

Another PITA and need to buy extra tools. Why not just use Allen bolts it works for everyone else.

Update, had a chance to check all the pivots now I have the right tools...top shock bush and seat stay hardware ARE torx - at least on mine. The rest are torx plus. Except on mine the rear axle pivots are 12mm Allen one side and a T60 torx plus the other...a 12mm Allen key is tight enough to get to the correct Nm. Bit suss all the different fittings.

So, carefully using a fine pick, I lifted all the bearing seals: all pivot bearings were bone dry...bike is almost 2 months old...seat stay pivots both sides seized. All These bearings had no grease from factory. For the seat stay bearings, Lots of patience and once rotating, spinning them up with a drill and flushing them with clean grease a couple of times got them almost acceptable...

Haven't had a chance to get out for a decent ride. But playing around in the street it seems that the squeaks and creaks might be gone.

These things are such a fun bike, but it's really disappointing that bike manufacturers buy such crappy bearings...my 2 x old Norco's were the same, but once greased have been fantastic for years.

Hope to get my new frame any day, I think a strip down before I rebuild is in order.....
As a bare frame, that would make a whole lot of sense...glad that warranty is finally sorted, you'll get to have fun on this one. Maybe a frame skin while it's bare too???

If anyone needs the bits for the Lynx (like I just did!), neither JetBlack (the importer) or Pushies (where I bought the bike from) where very helpful.

However at least Jetblack could confirm what was needed, just a Torx Plus T27 and a Torx plus T40. The rear wheel pivot apparently just needs a cassette tool.

Jetblack told me that I'd need to order the tools online from the Uk, which seemed like a major PITA, but then I found these guys http://sostools.com.au/

Awesome! In Sydney, overnight deliver, guy on the phone was very helpful.

So stupid they sell the bikes but don't have tools to work on them!

I guess you're all talking about Lynx 4.8s? I've got a 2014 Lynx 6 (alloy) and all the pivots look like standard allen keys to me. Except for one at the rear which looks like it would fit a splined cassette tool.

My mates 27.5 has a cassette tool for the rear axle pivot... My 4.829 is definitely not... A 12mm Allen does the trick. I suspect that different bikes/production runs might have different hardware. Since sorting the pivots, the bike has been silent and is awesome...it's turned out to be everything I'd hoped it would be. Just worried it will make me lazy, especially climbing because it's so good.

I did all my pivots except 1 that I couldn't remove without the Torx plus. Silent so far.

Have a great ride last night, reverb is a superb addition.

Steve, jealous of how light you got yours...but more than happy with mine nonetheless...and yes, dropper is a bonus.
As for the tools, I'm in Cairns, we don't have the worlds biggest selection, but a good shop up here had a full set of 11 x 3/8 drive torx plus bits, a 3/8 to 1/4 drive adaptor, and a 12mm Allen drive all to suit my 1/4 drive torque wrench in store in 2 days at about $45 all up. Just need one more bit, T30 torx, as I have only got them in wrenches at the moment.
How were your pivot bearings, Steve?
