Built the Bottlerocket mini-mullet during lockdown back in 2021, maybe some of yall remember it, and I've been loving and riding the hell out of it: from Blue Derby, to Bright, Falls, Buller, Thredbo and about 50 places inbetween... but the time has come to upgrade.
I LOVE the super nimble, huck anything, jib anything, almost-BMX feeling of the Bottlerocket, but the short wheelbase is a double edged sword. The short geometry and 26" rear is limiting my ability to let it hang out on the fast chunk and I want to go faster while still having smaller wheels for fun.
Just had her final few runs at Falls Creek and now I'm stripping it down.
Enter my (new to me) 2022 Propain Tyee AL 5 27.5 medium raw aluminum frame with a Fox DHX2 coil (425lb coil).
Going to migrate as many parts across as I can:
As for the Bottlerocket's fate... I can't sell the frame or hang it on the wall, so I am going to rebuild it back to full 26", use a single-speed conversion & DMR Chain Tensioner, no dropper, rear brake only, just a cruisy dirt jumper pump track run to the shopes type of bike. Will probably re-decal it in new a colourway since it won't have kashmia for matchy anymore... some funky colourway probably.
I am not sure what I'm more excited about, building the Propain or re-doing the Bottlerocket haha
