Buying second hand - higher spec older bike or lower spec newer

Going against the grain, I say if you're not a highly skilled/experienced rider, you prob wont notice the difference in spec levels that much. For the money of the bikes you listed, you could get a brand new 2017 Scott Spark 760/960, new 2017 Scott Genius 750, new 2017 Specialized Camber 29,

That nukeproof shits all.over the.fire eye as far as looks go, probs.handles better.

Yeah, but who wants to lug around a 160mm bike for riding XC trails ?

To the OP, I'd be looking for something second hand fitting the following criteria:

* No more than 3/4 years old
* 29 or 27.5 inch wheels
* Around 120mm + 20mm travel front and rear
* SLX or better (shimano) or X9/X1 or better (SRAM) drivetrain that has not done may ks or has had regular chain swaps (check the chain wear)
* The right size

Keep looking until you find the right bike, even if it take another month or more.

Me, but friends think I'm boonta. Nothing like an 8 or 9 incher for a bit of xc. Get with it, that's why sampson challenges and such happen, some.like to do it the hard.way
