Click on 'Complete a community survey'.

You will quickly notice it doesn't even mention MTB specifically, despite promotion of MTB being Val's election promise.

Survey 'assumes' all cycling is road/commuting/family fun kinda stuff.

Add the following sort of written comments;
- this survey does not even specifically mention MTB despite it being one of the fastest growing sports around the world
-Cairns is famous for it's MTB'ing in the 1990's but is now a shadow of its former glory
-there is ZERO government funding for MTB in Cairns, despite it being an Olympic sport
- Smithfield facility is badly run down & almost unable to be used for events
- Cairns region consistently produces national & international champions yet they have almost no-where to train or compete in their home city
- there is no facility at all, public or private, for 2 of the 4 major MTB disciplines [ 4Cross & Trials]
& so on...
Please show all your friends.

is smithfield usable for public use outside of events ??? I'm currently completing the survey, but wasn't sure ?

Yep, but....
- in poor repair
- road network almost deteriorated to unusable
- is only a fraction of the original area recognised for MTB

Suvey Completed.

For all those that want to make a difference to MTB riding in cairns,

in the "other" sections, put something regarding mountain biking in there.

You may need a map of cairns up on your screen if you are not local for certain questions, most of the info can be gotten from the same webite as the survey is on.

Cairns advocacy

Buuuump

We've had feedback that there is a distinct MTB trend on this survey & it will really be noticed by council. This could be a real boost for the region, so please get in people's faces to do a survey . Fill it in accurately & honestly so it isn't discounted as trash, but add extra written comments about MTB. This is the kind of ground work that gets things moving.

i added my view to the survey, not that i expect miracles but who knows, a little cash along with some coordination with Cairns MTB could do wonders and make Cairns the complete MTB destination.

Bang on Keeper!

" Cairns; outdoor recreation capital of Australia"

Make North QLD an international level MTB destination again ,with trails bloody everywhere. Good for tourism, economy, & us of course. A sleeping giant has awoken.

The irony there is that no other place in Australia has ever been a MTB destination. Cairns is so far ahead, it's been a MTB destination, fallen on tough time and will rise from the ashes! (again!).

Smithfield was great, although it always was a little too far from the CBD for my liking.

Coperload Dam Road? Is that still all illegal? Some of the finest riding in OZ is to be found of that road.

I f#cking love riding in Cairns.

Most of the trails off Lake Morris Rd closed as suburbia filled the exit points - still a couple. Smithfield doesn't feel so far from CBD now & is a 'mid' rather than 'outer' suburb. There is sooooo much potential. We have a cable car going up the hills past some of the best DH in the country!!!. There are old quarries in the middle of town. There must be 1000's kms of old roads & trails in the region waiting to be legitimised. If all of this progressed as it should have from the 1990's, people could come here for weeks with DH & XC bike, & still barely scratch the surface.

holy christ.

could they make these surveys any worse?

I guess this way they only get the people who really really care about things though, everyone else would give up halfway. farrrk.

Jesus, filling that out just about killed me!

Hopefully we can get some more BMX tracks and maybe a decent DH/FR trail.

Valid points chaps, just remember this could be the best way to be heard in a long while, so it's worth it. Keep at your mates - strength in numbers.
