Cairns Trails in Paradise

$300/m is fairly normal these days for a trail building company.
By the time they go through all the environmental impact studies and jump through all the other hoops, that's what you end up with.

I assume that some of the money will go towards signage, amenities upgrades and a semi-permanent trail crew or a retainer for a trail company for x number of years.

I agree.
$15 million does sounds like a lot for 50km. 🤔

Mogo had an $8 million budget for what ended up as 130ish Km of trails and that included all the trail head facilities, signage, the works.

The Melrose epic + bale out is 48km, not sure on the final cost but $3-4 million is ballpark as far as I am aware. @Ackland could elaborate.

$6 million for a 20km trail  Quality stuff on the East coast.

Oh, what I could do with 6 million!🤤
I could do the full Penguin MTB Park redesign and build all the planned 70km of new Dial Range trails and still have a million left over.

Maybe there's some substantial infrastructure components in this project.🤷‍♂️

I reckon you'll find there's a bunch of other infrastructure and approval activities included in that cost.

It would come down to how the land manager wants to run the project, for Remarkable Epic, I had to run the Project Management including environmental and cultural surveys/approvals, Veg Clearance offsets/carbon offsets, grant management and stakeholder management.

From my understanding, the big trail company who is likely involved likes to be a one stop shop and manage that as part of their design and construct contract.

For reference...
Finch Hatton Stage 1 costs
$2M Design and construct 13.5km trails
$3.8m Design Construct town trailhead and parking infrastructure etc
$0.4m Pump track at the town trailhead

Finch Hatton Stage 2
$45M for another 82km of trails

Cairns is a high rainfall area, steep terrain, and it's a conservation park that borders a national park. I'd guess the price would include other amenities like car parks and toilet upgrades.

The rail trail here (BVRT) cost 40 million in total, and it's roughly 161 km.

Hope DEW renumerated you handsomely for your trouble, you did a great job BTW 🫡

Already has nice trails and a ridiculous spanse of water to cross with sub paaah ferries. Maybe Vic would like some.
Vic would like some.

The problem is, see all these hoops...

That's all the hoops that have to be jumped through to get any trail network past the planning stage.

Unless you bid for the commonwealth games get funding and then can them....

Kind of my point, despite being less accessible than Cairns, it brings the crowds!
