Confessions from the fuckwits

Cheers. Reckon I will get some hard core tyre levers for next time. Will let ya know if I change my mind. :)

I had to cut off an e13 all terrain tyre. It’s was a biatch to mount and there was no way it was coming off in piece.
Sometimes I have brushed soapy water on a rim to help get a stubborn tyre bead seated, and rubbed the bead with a chunk of dry hand soap to 'lube' the bead a bit.
I was thinking that after a bit more riding on the Strada Bianche tyres I might try putting a little bit of dishwashing liquid between the rim and the bead, to see if it will seep into any tiny space to break the deathgrip the bead currently has on the rim, and get it into the centre trough section. It could be a gamechanger, or another post here...

A tighty, I have spray soapy water, also a chunk of wax and run it round and round the bead, to give some slip rather than dry rubber on dry rim. A candle will do or a chunk of chain wax.

A good compresser will get it off. Wear hearing protection and stand on the other side of a brick wall whilst performing said operation. Or do it underwater.

My confession tonight is thinking I could change an inner and outer shift cable in 1hr.

Pulled the old inner out, ran the new inner through the old outer.

Pulled the old outer, started pushing the new outer up from the bottom. Spent a long time (with a few different techniques and much swearing) to finally get the outer through the CS. Hard part done.

Not.

Remove the downtube split cable glands, feed the outer up through the two ports. New outer is 5mm, old was 4mm. Split glands don't fit. Somehow manage to bore them out without applying drillium to my fingers. Small win.

Oh yeah, also put a 4m ID outer end cap on at the shifter instead of a 5mm one so had to pull the inner back out and put the 5mm one on.

Stop the clock! 3.5hrs

The best thing? The carpark test has shown I can't really even notice an improvement lolz.
As Kip Casper of KLON Radio often says "..... I need a saga! What's the saga??"

Soooooo, in addition to the above post (6months ago...) I forgot to mention that I kinked the outer whilst trying to route it. I managed to save it by squishing it back round at the kink, tested the cable and it ran through the kinked bit with no friction. When I mentioned this to @Jpez at the time he said "nah replace it, coil it up and label it dropper outer. Not worth it shifting like shit".

Now that that's cleared up. Fast forward to the last few rides on the Smuggler and the gear changes have been balls. I did blast the derailleur into a rock somewhere along the way a couple of months ago so kind of figure that was it.

Straightened the hanger with my shifter. Changes still balls. In the back of my mind is the kinked outer. So bought a new inner and outer to fix it.

Tonight I fitted the new cable and outer, routed the cable through the pulley (sram derailleur) and went to clamp it under the clamp washer just like it was when I removed the old one.

This is where I realised the cable wasn't routed through the second quadrant after the pulley. And neither was the old cable I had just removed.

Route the cable properly and what do you know!? Fucking gear changes are mint.

TL;DR: Always double check the cable routing.

Stumbled across my digital tyre pressure gauge in a shed clean-up, I thought it was lost ages ago. I know the gauge on my cheapie track pump is way inaccurate. Thought I'd check the tyre pressures on my pump track bike as I thought they might be low. Checked the sidewall of the tyre, max. 65PSI, chuck the pressures on the digital gauge - 69PSI front & 70PSI rear. So if that feels low then f*#k knows how high I've had the pressures! No harm no foul I guess? 🤷‍♂️

Label things? I just leave it all on my cluttered workbench for months on end. Then I can't remember what was wrong with the things and leave it all there for many more months...
I believe it was more a ‘Do as I say not as I do’. kinda thing. I’ve never labeled a thing in my life. My bench I believe looks much like yours!

to be fair, it sounds like you have this much of a new bike...

my COtFW..
every ride i seem to fark my knee or neck or back or something.. then recover.. then get all excited, do too much and stuff something else...
silly cycle really,, but i've never had much luck with moderation 🤡
Yes, sounds like the right thing to do. Won’t do me any favors going forward but I will have another bike!

So, been a while. But a little whlie posted a fork for sale on The Book, along with a bunch of other parts.

My confession is that I forgot about ye olde Rotorburn, fixed now.

Wanted to experiment using an old tripple crank on a boost frameset. Heard it would work.
Went to swap the chain ring from middle to outer position but found I would need to shave a mm of the inside so it would fit the cranks outer spindle.

Idiot me, was not thinking and put a rag down to protect the teeth as I sanded with a drill.
Sanding wheel brushed the rag picking it up flapping for a split second before I took my finger off the trigger.

Haven't seen the chainring since!
It's either completely left my property 20m away or is stuck somewhere high up in one of the trees in my backyard!

Probably lucky it didn't take my head off on the way to where ever it went

Always sketchy when you don't hear it land.

To the moon! (Whoosh!) 😂

Look for a geared possum.

Bought some new clipless shoes to replace the old ones that had been a pain in the arse for a while.

Saw the old pair sitting by the back door and thought to myself "I'm going to enjoy a slight tickle of pleasure dropping you in the bin".

This morning, about 20 mins after the garbo truck went passed I started getting my kit together for a lunchtime ride. Picking up my new shoes, I literally face-palmed when I realised...., well, you know how the rest goes.

I'm now online wasting $$$ on some new cleats.
