Confessions from the fuckwits

I was working on another metal sculpture and thought I'd cut this big arse gear in half. Put it into my Supercheap chop saw and got this far through and then all the smoke got out.😖

Low RPM "cold" saw with a coolant feed maybe...? Certainly hoping you don't mean a typical drop-saw as there would be much more smoke!
No definitely not talking about using the old makita drop saw. The new cold cut saws as Matty said pretty damn good. With blade speed and blades optimised for steel they cut straight through without all the mess, less noise and cleaner cuts with less deflection. its a similar leap to when portable migs came out to mostly replace the big old coil arc welders.

Good chance to upgrade to a toothed blade saw.
I have looked at them. I'd be interested to see how one handles steel as thick as this. I've only seen them cut tubing. That said the old chop saw was only $100 something at Supercheap many years ago, so you can't expect too much.

Yeah I dunno either. I’ve cut 10mm mild steel bar just fine with them. I even bought a blade for my circular saw for an on site job. Speed was a bit high but did the job with little fuss.

Saw a vid similar to this a while ago... Ive never used one personally, but this is pretty impressive.

That is impressive. I do have a big Ryobi mitre saw so I wonder if I can get a metal blade that will handle the higher RPM of the wood saw. 🤔

Cold saws are good until someone tries to cut something hardened
The steel chips are like splinters and stick to your clothes and skin, from my experience.

The price of the teethed blades was almost the cost of a new unit years ago; they usually crack the blades between the teeth from heat cycles.

Rapid pace through the bike mechanics today, only the usual "im sure this item is meant to be in this place..." holding me back. Managed to avoid catching a case of the drop-sies.

Until I got to work. Now my work keys are in the bottom of the elevator shaft and I dont have a magnet to retrieve them with. Ill be rushing in a little tomorrow to attempt a magnetic retrieval.
