Confessions from the fuckwits

The diesel nozzle won't fit into an unleaded vehicle, but no problems getting unleaded into a diesel.
There are 2 nozzle sizes used for diesel depending on where you go - we had a guy working at a servo come out wondering how I'd put diesel in the xtrail where it apparently shouldn't have been cause I'd used the high flow (truck) pump rather than the car one. I had to show him the glow plug light when I started it before he stopped panicking that I'd put the wrong fuel in it...

They are very obviously different sizes, but diesel does use both...

Mate had a car come in for a service and old mate says can you fit a new sump plug and washer? Last oil change he dropped the plug in the drained oil then disposed of that before getting the plug back. It had a spark plug screwed into the sump with what looked like18 tubes of silicone around the hole.

I can't say I noticed diesel nozzles small enough to fit in a ULP car, but I have never tried it.
It looks like anything goes for diesel nozzle size. These were the common sizes:

ULP 13/16"
Leaded and Diesel 15/16"
High flow diesel 1" or 1 3/16"

Maybe that's what he was on about, that he was surprised the high flow fit more than he was that it was a diesel...

I've been machining a 36.1mm burnishing head for my Z1's when I have a spare minute or two after work and last Thursday I had sometime to finishing it off.

Due to someone using the "good" lathe (read newer, less clapped out) at work I was just roughing the head up on the old MAZAK. Then I switched to the new lathe for final machining.

The MAZAK is imperial and each graduation is 0.001".

The new lathe is metric and each graduation is 0.04mm.

Take a "10 thou" cut, nekminit the head measures 35.96mm. Fuckwit.

So now I have a 35.1mm head. LOL.

Good lord, and I thought my stupidity was hard to grasp.
I've had 3 Ford Territory's in the last 16 years, 2 petrol and a diesel, the amount of times I've automatically gone to put petrol in the diesel is ridiculous. It will happen one day.. I sometimes get PTSD about what I'm putting in while filling up. My local servo has 6 fuel options on each bowser.

I once thought I had put in Premium into my diesel Triton, it was in fact Premium diesel but I did panic for a little bit until I realised.

perhaps you need a laminated disc glued to the fuel cap that reads:

DIESEL, YOU #$%#$%#wit

I'm sure that if I had a Diesel car or SUV I would need that sign myself. 😖

I seriously can't believe servos haven't been forced to use consistent bowser/nozzle colours for each fuel type. If you typically always fill up at the same servo (or brand/group of servos), then drop past another one on a holiday trip it's waaay too easy to lift the wrong nozzle off the hook out of habit.

Premium diesel in fact only has some more soap in it.

Apologies if you knew that!

Antifoaming agent and injector/engine cleaner (soap).

BP Ultimate also had a guaranteed cetane level of over 52, though tested it was usually 55-60. With the minimum cetane for diesel being 46, I have put BP Ultimate diesel in my last 2 vehicles every fill up for 15yrs, minus about 6-8 times, mostly in Tassie and a couple out bush but still usually a BP if available and I'll carry a couple of jerrys if going bush.

Up until 6 months ago, every OTR garage in SA had Ultimate Diesel, they sold out and are now all Shell. That was 150 servos that went from BP to Shell, now careful planning is required to drive past an AMPM or X-Convenience as they are the only ones left selling it.

Plus you could open the filler cap, and smell diesel easily.
You think? I am not putting my nose that close to anything that has petrochemicals stored. I was also in a fuel station at a pump that had multiple nozzles and the results on the ground of attempts by others to fill their vehicles. But hey whatever.

OTR sold to Viva Energy for a lazy 1.15 billion. Viva run/own Shell fuels in Aus. OTR at the end of my street so just filling up with Shell Premium diesel and no issues so far.

Still do multiple checks before pumping. Diesel on cap, fuel filler and pump. I scan and go via an app. App says diesel ok pull trigger. 😂

Back when the last time I looked, which is no longer on the BP site, it was the only diesel in Aus to guarantee the cetane level above 52. I have no doubt that the premium diesels from other suppliers are pretty much similar but I have now done 360,000km across 2 diesel vehicles without any engine issues so not changing anything. Happy with the running of my vehicles and really like the non foaming of Ultimate/Premium diesel when filling up.

I've put 350,000 km into a turbo diesel powered Volkswagen that I bought new in 2002. Using pretty much whatever diesel I could find in western NSW, north western Victoria or whatever other part of Australia the poor thing has been flogged through.

The entire fuel system (apart, of course, from the fuel filter and pump timing belt) is still the same as the one that left the factory. So clearly the fuel filters and water separator has done the magic...so far.

Why is non-foaming useful?

I know SFA about cars and fuel.
Quicker to fill is probably the main benefit. You don't have to wait for the bubbles to go back to liquid to get a full tank.

It does make a difference, but not enough for me to hunt it out.

And I'm in a similar boat to @silentbutdeadly I takes it where I can gets it. Some towns don't have an option.
