Considering parting ways with my Pivot Mach 6

I have been considering swapping out my Pivot Mach 6. I have the 2014 Mach 6, owned for 20 months or so. It has been an awesome bike but I have been wondering about swapping it out recently. I'd sell the frame, shock + bits to offset the cost of a new frame. Not sure what I'd get for it, and that might be my deciding factor, since any change would have to be perceptible different enough to be worth the $$ out of pocket.

I am loving the look of the Evil Insurgent, although a little bit concerned about support from Evil & distributors. The other option would be a Bronson or Nomad.

Anyone want to chip in with any thoughts, experience with the Evil or the insurgent? Anyone else swapped from a Mach 6 and been elated or disappointed?
 
Test ride some bikes.

That will quickly tell you whether changing your frame will make a perceptible difference, or just be a huge waste of cash.

Maybe cast your net a bit wider than such boutique bikes, even if it is just to see how they compare to your current bike. At least if you get a test ride, there'll be no surprises about what your getting.
 
You need to ask yourself what you're looking for. I sold my mine because I wanted a frame with a longer reach, slacker head angle, could use a coil shock without voiding the warranty, and the cable/hose routing was a joke. Yoke driven shocks, like the m6 and specialiseds tend to wear air shocks faster as well from what I've seen on mtbr. I wouldn't bother with a bronson, it's basically the same frame with a worse suspension design. A patrol or reign were better bikes given the criteria I wanted when I changed, now I'd probably have a look at mondraker and nukeproof as well.
 
My shock is still in good shape. I love the bike but I also love switching things up. I would like a bit more reach but my current reach isn't a killer. I would like a slightly better climber (too much weight over the back + my fat arse works against me). No one thing is a problem, but I got to wondering what change is like.

"Wouldnt bother with a Bronson", said no one ever (ok maybe someone, but thats a lonely voice)
 
The point isn't that the Bronson is a bad or undesirable frame, rather if you're wanting something different from a mach6, it's not different enough to justify the change in comparison with the other alternatives available.
 
I have been reading the Insurgent mega thread over on MTBR, and the CCDBA Mach 6 thread.

The Insurgent sounds nice with its longer cockpit. Seems to have some shock setup idiosyncrasies just like the Mach 6.

I am not sold on the Bronson. It was my bike of choice in 2014 but supply worked against me and I ended up with the Mach 6. Not sure I'd go to a Bronson from a Mach 6 as Placebo says - probably not different enough.

If I could score a better CCDBA for my Pivot and reasonably money I'd do that first. But a CCDBA is 900$, and I am thinking I could swap the frame for c2.5k (+ selling the Pivot).

Yeah cool. Misunderstood what you meant. Agree, similar to the pivot

Yeah, I used a CCDBA with a climb switch for most of the time I had my mach6, and as a 95kg rider it was much better for me. I had an early mach6, and the base tune was increased on the standard fox shock later in that year. If you are above the average weight on the frame, a standard air can works better than an evol or corset can, as does increased damping.
 
I have owned an Insurgent for about 5 months now can't say enough about it. It's a bike for those that like to be playful on the trail. The geometry option of Low and X-Low makes it even more versitile. I run Fox Float X2 in mine. After racing Trans NZ it is a superb shock for the bike. There are slightly smoother suspension designs out there but there is no perfect frame. It is incredibly stiff and tracks like a train through the rough stuff. This bike rips, the more you give it the more it gives back.

To the service/support here of Evil through Defcon it is second to none. Best service I have ever had even though Stu is 2 states away. Sounds a little cliché on here but hit him up and see for yourself. He will bend over backwards to get you a bike running and keep it running.

Firstly, thank you for the write up. I am so keen on the Insurgent for not very logical reasons. So it is great to hear some reasoned arguments.

2q's.
1) were you the guy that cracked their down tube on the Trans NZ?
2) were you at the Ourimbah Rollercoaster event? I was drooling over the evil I saw there.

Once you buy/ride an Insurgent you will see all the logic in it haha.

That was me. I assume you saw the picture in my PYR thread. Trees dont move much :(

I wasn't there. But there are a few floating around. They look really nice...

I'll put my hand up too. Owned a Blut tr for a year or so- overpriced, overrated too much lateral flex, not enough mid stroke support and high maintenance. Suspension pivots should not break riding fire trails. Test rode a carbon bronson, the norco I currently own makes Santa Cruz Vpp seem primative and crude by comparison. Dutch parent company, manufactured by giant, assembled in the us.
