COVID-19: who’s going full doomsday prep on this?

Student tests positive at SA High School. All students, parents told to isolate immediately. Hmm..let’s see what happens. School just down the road from the pizza bar.

Got a friend in Melbourne whose demeanour has changed so much that she doesn't sound the same anymore, 4 months has devastated her.
Yeah it's fucked a few people up. I've had several mates who just bailed any way they could to the regions before Stage 4. Others have just had too much time to themselves reflecting and it's either been a net positive or very, very bad. Good to see mental health got a big boost in the Vic Budget yesterday.

Biggest whinge for me is mtb, months of not riding anything challenging and my skills and confidence is in the absolute bin. Feel like I'm starting all over again. I know it's very little in the grand scheme of things but it's pretty disheartening to be so crap at something you love doing.

same here, but at least we are alive and healthy enough to ride, starting over or not. :D
Think of all those poor bastards in USA, UK & Europe and India and just about everywhere else.
And while you are doing that, remember how the state and federal LNP dickheads and murdoch were screaming and having tantrums about how Vic and Australia should open up and get rid of restrictions.
Fuck those LNP and murdoch 'people' with a jackhammer in every orifice. They only give a shit about money and power.

Oh absolutely - hence the caveats about my riding being very small beans in the grand scheme of things, especially as my mental health didn't really take much of a smack during the lockdown. Mind you I'm single with no dependants which probably helped a lot.

And yes, I'm waiting with a metaphorical baseball bat next election(s) to royally fuck up anyone unfortunate enough to think representing the LNP in Victoria is a smart career move. As I live in the electorate of Melbourne it'll likely make no difference as I think the Greens have a margin of 9000% now, but it'll make me feel better.

Great overview of the last week and a bit in SA with mostly Simpsons gifs:

Tassie open from 3rd December for South Aussies.

It seems we are in the clear here, another zero day but still a few weeks before we are deemed clean.

I am 100% behind states keeping their borders closed, why ruin other peoples Christmas and livelihood.

The Vic brothers know this all too well.

I understand the Qld CHO will be making a decision on SA next week - take that as an endorsement of SA’s current situation. Jeannette Young is normally in the rocking chair on the front porch with the double barrel when it comes to our borders.

The wife has postponed travel to SA to see her folks twice already this year - first it was the Vic 2nd wave, then those silly girls returning from Vic to Qld - and has re-booked for Christmas. I’m hoping the border does open and she can go so that I get a holiday too...

Even if they open all the borders my concern in travelling out of state is that if there is an outbreak in particular QLD do this “oh you have til midnight to be across the border or quarantine” if your a long way from home that’s a lot of pressure and possible cost.

I mentioned this a few pages back and what happened to some friends on the day the borders and lockdown hit.

I would not be planning interstate till at least mid 2021 and I don't think international will be an option for a few years... apart from NZ maybe.

Interstate might be OK on your own but booking and taking the whole family with the speed the borders slammed shut would be risky.

I don't have any family here so it's easy for me to say that, but have told my 75yr old parents back in N Ireland they need to hold on for a few years more.

Sort of have a backup plan for that too @Minlak - assuming the QLD/NSW border remains open, I have family in Ballina that my wife could stay with for 14 days if QLD closes to SA whilst she's away. Gladys kept the borders open with SA through the recent cluster so getting from Adelaide to Ballina isn't really in any doubt.

As soon as SA clears it's current cases the whole nation should be covid free in the community, which makes it far less likely that eastern state borders will close again. McGowanistan is still an outlier, but who wants to go to WA anyway.

As much as I've been sceptical of VIC's unblemished record over the last month, with each case-free day it gets less likely that there are any lurking cases in the community - another cluster would have surfaced by now. I think Dan is to be commended on his rebooted hotel quarantine (CQV) model too - the police and ADF in charge of enforcement, dedicated service staff and daily testing including staff households. He's not taking any chances this time. Short of offshore processing, I don't know what more could be done. All states do need to up the level of compliance and vigilance with their HQ now that borders are open, as widespread movement of people could amplify any outbreak.

Trying to work out what the deal is with getting into SA - seems like you need to register with SAPol and have a covid test on day 1? covid test only if you're not travelling form a low community transmission zone.

All non-essential travel still discouraged, so not sure whether we should cancel or hope that changes in the next 2 weeks.

Seems you're right - simply register with SAPol, although the application form has a "stay away unless you've got a good reason to come" vibe to it, which might just be a hangover from when SA was trying to keep covid out, instead of the current situation where they have active cases within. From personal experience, the Qld border declaration pass lagged the actual state of restrictions when the QLD/NSW 'border bubble' was relaxed a while back from just local postcodes on both sides of the border to the all QLD postcodes and northern NSW ones. The online application process and actual border pass were still presented as if the initial restricted bubble was still in place, but you could enter any QLD residential address on the online application form and it would accept it and issue the border return pass.

Hopefully that SA Health non-essential travel advice is just in place until the Parafield cluster burns out and they can return to their covid free status along with the rest of us.

I've been fairly lucky. Wife and I don't have kids (don't want them). We both enjoy video games and staying home most of the time. So not much changed for us except getting more time back in our days.

Been working from home since March, even started a new job in July also from home (not even been to the office yet). Wife changed jobs in July too. Works for me, loving it.
I'm hoping I can work from home more when things settle in.

Only issue for me was the 5km rule and the ring of steel between regional and metro. Those were killer. Otherwise it didn't feel like much of a lock down. Enjoyed having an excuse not to physically visit family etc. Still went to the shops for food, booze. Did stuff around the house etc.

All in all, I've felt pretty connected via technology, found ways to socialise well over Skype (cards against humanity ftw), got to do some long put off projects etc.

Blessed that mental health hasn't been an issue for either of us and that we've both been employed he whole time. Defo seen the opposite in some friends though. Been hard to watch some of them struggle, though they're all coming good now.

We're watching it too. I have friends who are trying to get over there in a couple of weeks so we'll see how they go

I seen a thing about visitors travelling more than residents and trying to keep a log of where they went for the first 2 weeks.

Even within SA -
Travel within most of South Australia is unrestricted, although people are advised to avoid unnecessary travel.
Covid protocols are forefront in everything and mask wearing is recommended.

Come visit ! Just beware if it flares up in any state, the big door will close quick.

No door closes faster than Paluszczuk’s! If one of you Mexicans even looks like sneezing she’s on the blower to Marky Mark to play another game of “who can shut their door the quickest”.

I reckon after the SA cluster and the rapid decisions of states to close out SA, the precedence has been set... get a wee cluster, head to the naughty corner for a month.

As I said, I am with it 100%, if another state got a QH containment hop, I'd be shouting, shut the doors dickhead !!!! We don't want that filth here :)
