COVID-19: who’s going full doomsday prep on this?

FWIW - 87 cases of TTS blood clotting issues with Astra Zeneca vaccine doses in Australia thus far, and only a portion of them fatal. That's out of 6,100,000ish doses administered here so far. Or roughly a 0.000001426% chance of complications if my maths is correct.

@moorey It’s ok, little chance as we are a 1000km apart.

I’ll refrain from participating in the thread from now on.

I do wish the mass hysteria here carried over to the climate thread. ATM I’m the only hysterical one over there.

I think the general theme in the last page or two is going to become more and more prevalent in society moving forward. There's building tension amongst Australians. Victorians have been crippled by this thing for almost 18 months now, while the other states have been able to remain fairly unimpeded. I can't even begin to express what this has done to people I know directly whether mentally, physically or financially.

Everyone has a right to make informed decisions themselves, but people like the removalists who ended up with no mother, they are the ones that are keeping us locked in this cycle.

As discussed, there are so many potential causes of death which are infinitely more risky than the blood clots - despite it existing. When it comes to the point where we have a global vaccine passport or stamp to get anywhere, I guarantee the anti-vax crowd will be first in line.

44 year old in Tassie died from Astrazenca blood clots and there are others in hospital as well, not just the reported deaths. I'm the same age and was considering getting the AZ as I can literally pop downstairs from work to get it, would take 5 minutes and wasn't too concerned given they were saying that the risk is 1 in 2 million. However given the 2 latest deaths reports are now saying the risk is actually more like 2 in 1 million.
Absolutely feel for this dudes family. ScoMo said go get the AZ jab it's worth the risk. You reckon his wife and kids and parents are all just sitting at home thinking it was worth it and it doesn't matter he's dead. What makes it worse is we haven't had an infection in over a year and if our government doesn't fuck up like every other one, this should continue?

Absolutely no fucking way I'm getting the AZ jab. Might have be tempted to take the risk if we had cases but by then it's too late anyway so whats the point.
Like you I am blessed to be in Tassie, and thank my/ our lucky stars that we've been spared from the COVID shitshow that most of the rest of Australia has had to endure, especially when we had the first serious lockdown over it back in the Ruby Princess day. I reckon though that it's pretty hopeful if you assume it won't make it back here due to good governance. It'll only take one case, e.g. through some flight attendant up in QLD and we'll be in complete lockdown given the situation with the health system here.

Regarding AZ, you are entitled to your opinions, but one thing I would say with the greatest of respect is that if you are 44 and haven't had a Fizzler shot yet, I don't think you've been trying particularly hard to get one. I know of numerous people in their 30s who've already got a shot, some of whom booked last week and received them within the last couple of days.

They probably demanded to see the vaccine manager.

You guys are so lucky to be an island off a bigger island. Like @Scotty T said above, us Canberrans are crapping our pants over our proximity to Gladys' 'Golden Standard' approach. Instead of building stage 2 of the Light Rail we should start digging a moat.

I also want to re-iterate what a terrible place Canberra is. No one should come here ever, for any reason. It's sooo boring and there's nothing to do.

It's not mass hysteria here, it's a reasonable conversation about science and statistics as it pertains to vaccines. It is reasonable to state that people should be getting the vaccine. I believe you are in the Pfizer cohort. If you have not booked yet, you are part of the problem.

If you really are concerned about the actual risk of AZ killing you (@nathanm too), then maybe you really shouldn't go driving, or ride a bike. Both have a lot more chance of injury or death, and the injuries are generally worse than the effects if you have AZ clots and don't die. Use it as an excuse, say how healthy you are so you don't need no stinkin vax, but know it's all just a load of horse shit the moment you jump in your car or on your bike to go enjoy your life.

Neither hifi or nathan have booked for Pfizer as far as I can tell. There's no excuse for that at all.

I would have gone for a big sciency Shine Dome for the Canberra bubble to reside in ;)

Pull your head out of your arse @shiny Us yokel hicks don't know shit.

We should all be following the gold standard example of the No. 1 state.

Funny thing that...while I'm only almost 43, I have a job classed as essential and frontline (no no...not the one opening beers for yokels! And certainly not my classification of things) which allowed me (apparently) fast tracked access to vaccination through a local health care provider. I made my reservation about a week ago and the earliest option was 9 Aug. How long is/has everyone else been on a queue for their first dose? A bunch of my friends with no access to (supposed) fast tacking are almost ready for their second inoculation!

Also 2 things I am sick of hearing from the anti-vax camp:
  • there's been so many more vaccine deaths than the media are reporting.
  • the covid death toll is overinflated because if someone has covid and they die from something else, it is recorded as a covid death.

Exactly who are you to tell people if and with what they get vaccinated? That's scotty from marketings job.

And you know what they say about assumptions, they make you look like a wanker on the internet.

If you feel so passion about vaccinations and telling people what to do how about you get a soapbox and stand on a corner and shout at everyone who doesn't agree with you. Let me know how that works out for you.

my only input is ( quite possibly ridonkulous )
  • people will continue to make poor life choices , drinking , smoking , crappy foods
  • take drugs , snort , snarf , inject , suppositories whatever .

Covid ?
oh I'm not getting that , i want the pfizer , don't want Astra , i want a choice .
As @Scotty T mentioned - soon enough this will not be a request , or a suggestion , my other half has had 2 fissures - and yes is over 50 - 2nd done yesterday - already has printed off the certificate .
- unfortunatyly @ozzybmx tin hats will not assist when shit gets real - and I'm not a libertarian , a socialist or any of the other 'its .

Just a realist .
