XC Cul's Carbon Rocky with Power!!!...

As some will know I have long been a fan of light(er) bikes, also long been addicted to bike porn having had some fairly impressive steeds in the past!... This one is no different; after finding two cracks in my old Ti Frame (head tube, and BB), I opted to grab a complete bike I found online cheap! I was a bit sceptical of "carbon" MTB frames having never had one but now I wouldn't have it any other way.

The bike is fairly well stock, with the exception of the wheels, SRAM/SRM crankset and Garbaruk Chainring and Extender. Plans for the future include running XTR 1x11, remote lockout and swapping out a few other bits and pieces to get the weight down a bit, however as it sits she comes in at a fairly respectable 9.6 something kgs. Now I just need to work on the rider / engine for this summer of XCO/XCM racing! :tape2:

Nice ride! That is a pretty tidy weight too.

How do you find the Stans Gold Race Wheels? Are they the equivalent of MMX rims? (The super light ones?)

I don’t mind them, they could be better though – I have had trouble with spokes loosening on the Rear NDS, but otherwise they have been fairly solid.
I probably liken them to an old Olympic / DT Swiss wheelset I had custom built back in the day… In an ideal world I get a custom build with carbon rims, but I am not made of money!

The SRM is good, well up until today which I think is more of a Garmin issue if I am to be honest. I haven’t had power on the MTB in the past but have used power on the road for over nearly 3 years now. Does it change the way I ride, No! But it does provide plenty of useful data particularly when comparing efforts. I am yet to race with power so I will be really interested to see what the data on Golden Cheetah throws up, particularly the W’Bal (AWC).

SRM’s are generally faultless, my only gripe is as it’s an older SRAM/SRM unit it has an 80/120 BCD which can be hard to find single rings for.

If you need/prefer smaller rings (26-32t) Blackspire 80BCD Mono Veloce Narrow Wide's are ~$30@CRC

I saw those, ideally I would run a 34t or 34t oval ring - but the 36t with 11-40 on the back is a good compromise IMO. Worst case I have a Sunrace 11-42 sitting in a box should I be keen on some serious climbing. :noidea::noidea::noidea:

For those interested the SRM issue ended up being a misaligned cadence magnet, all sorted now!

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like the main benefit is more data. I barely have enough time to ride, let alone analyse the data I already get. Think I will leave the PM till another day far in the future
