Insane... I've never seen the scale go up to 400mm. Last month people were evacuating from bushfires, and this time from flood waters 😬
 
Late last night the bom forecast a crossing just north of Caboolture with Alf at cat 1. They also stated that there was a chance it could continue up the coast hovering just off shore to Maroochydore or even Double Island. In this case it would likely remain as a cat 2. This last scenario depends on the interaction between the highs off NZ and Vic which have been influencing the cyclone path. If this last one occurs the damage will be significantly worse. Widespread flooding and coastal erosion and severe wind damage over several hundred km from northern NSW to @Minlak hoblo headquarters. Anyone in the south east keep on this.

I hate influencers.
 
I'm just sick of the waiting... I'm getting more fucking anxious about it the more delayed it's getting. Think we're pretty well prepared, but what's going to happen will happen and there's not much we can do till it's over...
 
Also, splat bang in the middle of the gc and it's lightly spitting with maybe a 20km wind? I get why a lot of people just aren't bothering, cause it doesn't seem like anything is happening... still fucken panicky though, and just waiting for it to pick up

Latest projected total rain through to Tuesday down a bit, but obviously everything is pretty dynamic and unpredictable.
 
In Coffs Harbour we're getting the most solid patch of rain we've had this week, its been proper heavy for a couple of hours with roads closed from flooding etc. The wind has back right off for now. Yesterday was a light rain day and seems like every business in town closed their doors. The problematic weather was never forecast before Friday, seems like people will take the smallest opportunity to get out of work. I'm glad to see the emergency services building their presence here though, it's good to know they are acting on what they perhaps should have done in affected areas in times gone by and are being over prepared.
Watching the trajectory of this thing, it literally draws a line over a mates house in Redcliffe then a little turn to zero in on his work in Caboolture then proceeds to his sisters inland a little then their Dad's holiday house further away. I'll be asking questions of them to know what sinister shit they've done to bring this on. ;)

A land of droughts and flooding rains. All at the same time in summer bushfire in the SE AU and wet in the Sub tropics and Tropics, pretty normal.
Unusual to get a cyclone make landfall so far south, however I bet there would have been way worse ones happen just not in our lifetimes which are mere grains of sands on the beach.
 
Pretty rare for a cyclone to even form so far south, but if sea temperature and other environmental factors are right, it does happen, as we're seeing now. Although Alf is "only" lowish-grade Cat. 2, it's still a very powerful storm. However what could make shit go really shit when he does make landfall is the fact that he's tracking relatively slowly, so he's going to blast the shit out of the region for a while.
 
Just been downgraded to a Low. We didn't really get much of anything - a whole lot of wind, a bit of rain seeped through the main bedroom windows and lost power but that's about it. Im assuming some stuff in the garage is drenched (side door faces east) but thats not gonna be too hard to deal with and the bikes needed a wash anyway. The GCCC dashboard is still saying stay inside etc and it's still very blustery outside with howling winds (we're in Mermaid Waters) but Alfred does seem to have calmed his shit. Still pissing down too, unsurprisingly.

I do think we were a bit lucky though - seeing reports of flooding, roofs off and trees down everywhere, and there're vastly more suburbs without power than with...
 
Yep downgraded to a tropical low before crossing the mainland, not much rain but a bit of wind on Brisbane northside.
So no direct cyclone hit for Brisbane this time around luckily.
 
Lost power at 02:30. Lots of wind and rain. Nothing worse than we have experienced in a bad storm but the winds were 8 plus hours. Weather station which is a few km away and shielded somewhat by a hill recorded 45kph with gusts to 75. Relatively calm now with medium rainfall. Generator on. Coffee machine works! We were very lucky. Coastal areas not so much but it could have been way worse for all.

Got barely anything here in the southwest, it's just starting to rain heavily now.

Looks like Gold Coast and Northern NSW have seen the worst of it for now, there's more rain to come I believe.
