Would be great to see it keep going and redo the old ones I can't stand. Buying it with $2 billion in cash?

I reckon thats awesome news ... George was getting tired and lets face it was trying too hard ... hopefully they can get a middle ground between the Clone Wars and the Movies ... I personally think animated serials are the way to go, but with a bit more depth of character and story.

George Lucas is the worst thing that ever happened to Star Wars.
If Nickelodeon bought it they would be better off.

If Disney can just stop George Lucas' ideas getting in the way they will be awesome.

George Lucas = Worst Director EVER.

Trying too hard? NO!

George on set. He had four signs that he would hold up to guide the cast. Louder, Faster, Softer, Slower. That's it.
During the end battle sequence of the final episode he said to his crew "Oh, let's just do it all in the computer. I give all you animators free reign. You know well enough by now what I like" and went away for three months and came back and said "Yep. That'll do" and signed off on it.

He even goes as far as to say "I am not a director. I am a toy designer".
The biggest problem with George Lucas is that he didn't try enough.
Even his story plots and characters have been plagerised.

I know I spelled plagerised wrong, but I can't be bothered googling it.

I agree about the animated serials though and more depth of charcter and story. Justv what it needs.

Let's just hope they don't turn into the crap that was John Carter.

What more is there to do? Didn't Star Wars finish with 'Star Wars III', thus rounding out the series?

I however am very normal. Trust me.
I always thought it was a trilogy of trilogies? So they could do episodes 7-9. Or otherwise there is heaps they could do based of various one books.

Looking forward to what they might make, but kinda scared it'll be crap at the same time.

the story is over. the billions have been made. lets go think of NEW ideas instead of milking this old one.

I loved them all even the hated prequels but cramming more movies in will take away from the series as a whole.

What more ???

i) Does Luke become the Grand Poobah obviously ... but imagine him kinda going to the darkside whilst rebuilding the order
ii) Does Leia become a Jedi ?
- what does she look like rudie nudie with this hair do

iii) when and how does Ahsoka die
iv) Sith vs Jedi wars ... BIG ONES
v) Mandalorian vs Jedi
vi) Han and Chewy the early years
- Han as an Imperial Officer Cadet
vii) Shite loads more about the underworld, Bounty Hunters ... Cad Bane ... the Hutts ... etc etc
viii) more shite about the Clones ... surely they just can't be cannon fodder ... there are some interesting snippets within Clone Wars
- Imagine a Clones versus Alien-esque spin off ... say as part of cadet blooding :)
ix) why is there still slavery in an age where there is a super religion of guardian Jedi

too much shite to leave alone

Re do the old ones? The original trilogy? You must be mad.

The original trilogy was the best thing about star wars. The prequels were a complete dissapointment, and a shining example of why George Lucas shouldn't be given complete control over a movie. I can only hope that any new films made will be sans Lucas, though I fear this won't be the case.

I must be, would definitely be the first time an older movie was remade. Call me crazy but the lake of decent CGI is kind of a bummer for me.

Considering the first one was released in 1977, the special effects (not CGI) were pretty groundbreaking. For me the special effects aren't what makes a film, it's the characters and the plot, and in the prequels those two elements were sorely lacking. Sure there were plenty of bright colours and explosions, but the actual story was terrible.

agree with Toff ^^ ... the additional CGI shite didn't really add anything to the directors recut of the original series ... this is what I meant by trying too hard. I don't like remakes overly much ... I prefer additions to the original story as opposed to a remake ... like the Marky Mark planet of the apes vs the Rise of the planet of the Apes ... the latter at least added to the overall story had some pretty cool new additions ... whilst a remake always seems to be a let down as it can never match the expectations of fans, or the hype.

I think the only remake that was any good was Casino Royale ... but I'm sure others will add their bits to job my memory

The effects they did have, with the models and the miniatures and all that there, was groundbreaking for their time, and still holds up quite well today.
Obviously they were great back then but to say they hold up quite well today is going a bit far bud.

Certainly they're not at the same level as movies like Avatar, but again I come back to my point of effects not being the core of a film. I'd go so far as to say that the original trilogy was more involving than most of the current CGI fests of this era.

Even by todays standards, they're infinitely better films than the prequels.

Ironically, it was George Lucas who said "Special effects are just a tool, a means of telling a story. People have a tendency to confuse them as an end to themselves. A Special effect without a story is a pretty boring thing."

The two not directed by Lucus are the best thing about Star Wars.

Sure the original story was a bit naff, it's a soap opera set in space, but as a kid growing up in the 70s the excitement generated by Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi was nothing short of awesome.

To be honest, despite the awesomeness of Darth Mall, Phantom menace ruined star wars for me. The best part about it was the excitement of the opening credits. For a trio of films that were always going to make a metric shit load of money the prequels deserved much better.

Of course there was a reason for them being shite
