Does this look genuine

I'm not 100% sure if it's legit, simply because from 2004(?) onwards XTC frames have hydroformed tubes with a hydroformed gusset joining the head tube, however the dude in the link below seems to know his stuff...buyer beware as always mate!

There's another discussion about this topic here: http://www.bicycles.net.au/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=19078&start=0

FYI, I've got an 05 XTC frame (built up custom) and it's awesome, super light and very responsive. Great XC frame that's lasted for donkeys. Have also taken it off 6 foot drops (to a good trannie) and it's handled it easily.

Thats main reason I'd like it to be a Giant XTC frame as I know they can handle the stuff, but as you say, sometimes you just don't know.

Also what are the tell tail signs of hydroforming? Im still pretty new to all of this so can't tell by looking at something if its hydroformed

hydro-form tubing is "generally" curvy, think 09 Norco A-line.

I'm no expert on giant frames, but the seller has over 9000 sales 99% of which are positive, so he must be doing something right ....

The Seatstays on the ebay bike dont look like Giant.
Can anyone confirm if the paintjob is designed for local markets, or, if the model paintjob stays the same all round the world ?
EDIT: answer was in other discussion! Different for various countries .

Are you going to use "v" brakes?

Still, the frame looks ok.
Giant?
I'm not so sure.

No Im not going to use V brakes. My reserach has shown that the paint jobs varies throughout region so that doesnt worry me so much. The V brakes mounts however are of concern. I havent seen an XTC 2009 frame with V brake mounts which makes me wonder about whether it is what it is claimed to be.

I dont want to get gipped and buy something that its not.

On the other hand it looks like a giant XTC and it may come from the same factory so there prob will be very little difference between this and a "giant" assuming its not a giant.

Its eitehr this frame or a Merlin Malt 2 which doesnt look as good, but seems to get good reviews.

2009 XTC

I think the main thing that gives it away is that the frame doesn't have an integrated headset like the real Giants. And the headtube isn't tapered in the middle like the real one.

So strange that people would rip off a Giant. What the hell?

The two frames in question look noting alike

Headtube Gusseting
Seatstay join (possibly, dont have another view of the giant)
V-brakes, as stated
Paintjob (Looks of lower quality)

It just looks like a much lower quality frame, and you can definitely see that the headtube gusseting is completely different.

From the link that Tombstone posted you will find both of these links:

http://www.giant-bicycles.com/zh-HT/partsaccessories/apparel/815/29310/zoom/
http://www.giant-bicycles.com/zh-HT/partsaccessories/apparel/815/29310/zoom/

The second link shows both types of frames. 09 frame? Who knows?
Both your links are the same:confused:

If people looked at the link that Tombstone posted they'd see that the frame is genuine Giant frame that's sold in Asia.

Frames sold in Korea: http://www.giant-bicycles.com/ko-KR/partsaccessories/framesets/1055/29634/
Frames sold in China: http://www.giant-bicycles.com/zh-HT/partsaccessories/apparel/815/29310/

The Asian XTC Team frames look exactly the same as the XTC Team frames that were on the 2002 XTC SE-1 & XTC SE-2 that were sold in Australia.
