Nio not in Aus yet are they?

No only in China from what i understand and they are struggling a bit but i hope they turn things around like Xpeng as NIO are the ones investing in battery swapping infrastructure so i want to see them do well.

battery swapping combined 300kw+ charging speeds would basically be end game for ice'mobiles.

Bit of a surprise wandering a new industrial refurbished shopping centre in roseberry, sydney, all the sort of trendy stores you'd expect amd then a Cadillac showroom full of EVs. Not a blackwing in sight, the one series that might make people excited for the brand.

Local Tesla shop clearly still had my email and wanted to know if i was interested in the new Y - i said no thanks. I like the cars but for obvious reasons Tesla is a do not buy proposition.

Amusingly the manager followed up with a "oh there is a lot going on in the world, whats the obvious reason? Funny.

I was polite, not his fault. But feigning ignorance of why people are not buying them and saying their sales are doing very well was an "interesting" approach...

Should have finished with "no worries bro enjoy your nazi mobile "

I reckon Tesla will be gone if they keep refusing to use anything but cameras for "assisted driving" and charging for it but not actually delivering what is on the label. 8 cameras in Tesla vs 12 cameras and 17 radar sensors in BYD. The computer is a lot less powerful in the BYD but supported by a lot more sensor data, I wonder if that is better than making the computer really powerful and working it hard because it doesn't have enough sensor data? My guess is yes.

Still no word on this in Oz but you can use your phone to translate the images of Chinese text that the browser doesn't translate:

I have now moved into the 21st century.

What is that very sexy car?

Xpeng G6, standard range version as I just don't like the morale issues with NMC batteries and with whats happening the DRC now.

but ignoring the politics it's an extremally sexy car.

it's like a mix of tesla model y and Porsche taycan.

Looks absolutely insane in person, especially in fiery orange, very bright and if you ever see it in person if you get up close to the paint there's purple/blue-ish flakes in the paint too.

Yeah I saw one in person last week looked very nice indeed. Other advantages of LFP are better tolerance of high states of charge, better degradation, albeit my wife's 7 year old nissan leaf still has 88% state of health, losing about 1% per year so it's not that big a deal. Better in hot weather apparently, less prone to thermal runaway.

That looks pretty good! One thing I’ve noticed about the Chinese cars is that they’re bringing actual colour back to the fleet!

and insane design at shocking prices.

I was talking to the driver who dropped my car off (Who was nice enough to drive my camry home for me) and he said he has delivered one other one and I know of one in Ulverstone so atm there's at least 3 in Tasmania but when i mentioned the price he was like "Is that all" and seemed relatively surprised it was under 60k.

don't blame him because it genuinely looks like a mix between a Porsche taycan and a model y only better looking.

real head turner. was out for lunch and hang outs with my mate and he said a lot of people were looking

Recommended 20% to 80% on those batteries kinda negates the benefits IMO

WLTP is 435 so expect 300 and you will be happy

I'm using the cars dynamic setting that bases the range off your driving style instead of the wlpt rating.

i did a 100 percent charge today and the dynamic range hovered between 470 and 530km but the up hill sections soon knock that figure down hah.
