Electric Vehicles etc

Thanks @indica - You Tube rabbit hole last night and Seal gets a bit more range than the Sealion likely due to slightly less weight. Good to hear still liking it.

Would like the charger to utilise solar panels where I can but could always start with an extension cord.

@Jpez our main car is diesel so if I end up with an EV I can feel part hippy part caveman.

@Tubbsy which model mini have you got? Looked at the range and prices are up there.

It's the two-door Cooper SE - kids (tall) fit fine in the back for shorter journeys.

Price wise, yeah they're not great value compared to Tesla or the Chinese brands, but it was what my other half wanted rather than an objective spec-based decision.

My ideal spec sheet for an electric car (not including drivetrain) -

Physical HVAC dials/buttons
Ventilated seats
Full size spare wheel
Easily disabled lane keep assist
Bidirectional charging
Actual under-thigh support for tall people
Apple Car Play / Android Auto

It’s funny what people consider important in a car.

My priority is the design/efficiency/performance of the drivetrain, handling/ride/feedback in the chassis, structural integrity/safety of the shell and its ability to keep me alive.

A distant second is the feel good stuff like styling and gadgets…

I thought the same about physical HVAC controls until I we bought the BYD’s. I honestly prefer the screen gestures now.

well here's a bit of math.

since taking delievery i've already done 1,117km due to xpeng forgetting to put in the trickle charger (I have one now and the car is happily trickle charging away) had to use public chargers for a bit.

I have spent 57 dollars at public chargers to travel those 1,117km which would have costed me about 130 dollars in my camry.

All of that is a given for me, in other words I wouldn't look at a car without them, and then I look at my list.
